Chapter 605 - 576: None of Them Are Naive Pushovers

(Extra Chapter thanks to monthly votes 2)Simon Forrester smirked as he tried to smooth things over: "I bet my grandpa has already picked out names for both a boy and a girl; we can just ask him for them later. It’s no trouble, really!"

Melinda Linton gently persuaded Quentin Thorne: "Yes, Quentin, let the kids make their own decisions about their matters. We’ve given our suggestions, so let’s just go with the flow."

Quentin Thorne paused for a moment, then smiled gently at her: "Alright, I’ll do whatever you say."

As Sienna Thornton put down her soup spoon, she chuckled, "Aren’t you two a bit old to be feeding us dog food?"

Melinda Linton asked, "What’s ’feeding dog food’ supposed to mean?"

Quentin Thorne turned his head to smile at her again: "It means showing off our love and making them jealous!"

Melinda Linton blushed and softly pushed him away: "You’re so improper."

Quentin Thorne laughed heartily and raised his glass to clink with Simon Forrester’s.

The family enjoyed a harmonious and joyful vibe.

Halfway through the meal, Sienna Thornton remembered she hadn’t seen Auntie King and asked, "Did Auntie King go home for the holiday?"

Melinda Linton laughed, "Your dad insists on letting Auntie rest whenever there’s a holiday, saying he can manage on his own, but every time he cooks, he asks me to help."

Sienna Thornton nodded knowingly and after a moment, reminded Simon Forrester: "Even though Auntie rests on weekends, don’t deduct her pay, just continue to pay the same amount as before."

Simon Forrester chuckled, "Got it."

Sienna Thornton had previously negotiated a monthly salary of twenty thousand for Auntie King, with three days off a month. If she doesn’t take the days off, she’d get an additional two thousand. Auntie King usually doesn’t take time off, so Simon Forrester has Harrison Rowe transfer twenty-two thousand to her account each month. As this practice became routine, Auntie King gets this amount regardless of taking time off or not. Moreover, after Quentin Thorne moved in, considering Auntie King had another person to care for, Simon Forrester instructed Harrison Rowe to increase Auntie’s pay to twenty-five thousand monthly and also bought her a commercial insurance policy with a million coverage.

When they talked about Auntie King’s salary, Quentin Thorne smoothly interjected, "Annie, let me handle Auntie’s payment since taking care of your mom is my responsibility."

Sienna Thornton, not wanting to discuss this with him, changed the topic with a playful smile: "My mom is my responsibility, why would it be yours? Strictly speaking, you’re both my responsibility."

Simon Forrester joined in to back her up: "Annie is my responsibility, which means the two elders are also my responsibility."

Sienna Thornton teased him, "That’s quite a bit of pressure for you, isn’t it? Your grandparents, your parents, my parents, and me, plus the kid. Count them up, that’s eight people!"

He replied with faux seriousness, "Didn’t you notice I’m too thrifty even to smoke a cigar?"

The crowd erupted into laughter.

.

After lunch, the Forrester couple returned to their room to rest.

Sienna Thornton stood in front of the wardrobe searching for her pajamas, and couldn’t hold back her thoughts any longer, so she vented to Simon Forrester: "My dad doesn’t want to take care of my mom himself, he just wants to be alone with her, so he sent Auntie home."

Simon Forrester, seated at the foot of the bed, chuckled, "See it but don’t say it."

Sienna Thornton turned her head to shoot him a glare: "You guys are all the same. Back when I broke my leg and stayed at your house, when Auntie was on leave, you stubbornly wouldn’t let Maeve come over to take care of me, just because you wanted to be alone with me."

Simon Forrester, who had drunk a few glasses of Château Latour with Quentin Thorne earlier, now had a flushed face, tipsy and grinning foolishly.

"I like you, that’s why I want to be alone with you... Do you think just any woman gets a chance to be alone with me?"

Sienna Thornton, hearing his slick words, knew he was drunk, so she just turned away without a word, took her pajamas, and went into the bathroom.

He laughed and followed her in, hugged her, and leaned his face close, "You women really are history buffs..."

"What?"

"History buffs, always bringing up the past..." As he said this, he leaned in for a few forced kisses.

The stench of alcohol on his breath made her want to vomit: "Get away, you stink!"

"How could I stink? You clearly used to say even my breath was sweet..."

Sienna Thornton: Ugh...

.

After taking a shower, Simon Forrester slept like a log.

Sienna Thornton originally wanted to discuss Zane Forrester’s plan to gift his shares to him, but now she had to study those agreements alone.

Sylvia Langley must have prepared these agreements in advance; they were all very precise and formal, clearly drafted by a lawyer. She must have started having these prepared right after learning about Zane Forrester’s affair, asking her maternal brothers to deal with Zane Forrester, teaching him a lesson, and opportunistically having him sign those documents.

For after having learned about her husband’s affair, she neither cried nor fussed; she focused solely on transferring all of her husband’s assets to their son. Only knowing Zane Forrester’s disobedience, she asked her maternal brothers to intervene to both teach him a lesson and simultaneously let him sign these documents, killing two birds with one stone.

She had stuffed these documents into Sienna Thornton’s hands in the morning, instructing them to finalize the paperwork quickly. She must have planned to initiate divorce proceedings once Simon Forrester successfully inherited all of Zane Forrester’s fortune.

Truly, she’s not one to linger in such a marriage, with such a man.

After going through a big pile of documents, Sienna Thornton realized that Zane Forrester had invested in many overseas assets and not just the overseas business of The Forresters. He invested in many fields, essentially in any project that had prospects, and as some projects thrived and appreciated, his small initial investments had grown very valuable now.

While surprised by Zane Forrester’s investment foresight, what shocked her even more was how Sylvia Langley managed to pin down many obscure and small-share investments. This wasn’t something that could be done quickly. Sienna Thornton speculated that Zane Forrester’s confidants must include several people loyal to Sylvia Langley.

From this inference, Sylvia Langley probably knew about Zane Forrester’s affair long before the public trial a month after the initial incident when the scandal spread fervently in domestic media... At the very moment, Zane Forrester was arrested, she already knew!

A chill rose from the soles of Sienna Thornton’s feet to her brain.

Sylvia Langley isn’t naive at all.

...

Simon Forrester didn’t wake up until evening, turning over to find his lovely wife not by his side. He softly opened his eyes, searched the room, and saw the slim figure at the desk, smilingly asking, "What are you doing up and not in bed?"

Sienna Thornton turned around, pointing at the pile of documents on the desk: "I’ve gone through these agreements, they’re all fine. Are you ready to sign them?"

Simon Forrester finally remembered those papers existed.

He lay on the bed, propped his head, pondered for a bit, and asked, "If I accept these shares, won’t I have to frequently travel to the United States?"

Sienna Thornton nodded, "At least once a month, for a few days each time."

"That’s not happening." Simon Forrester lay back down, eyes fixed on the ceiling, "You’re pregnant now, and until our child starts kindergarten, I can’t be apart from you."

Sienna Thornton sighed, this matter indeed was difficult. She herself was reluctant for Simon Forrester to go to the U.S. for frequent business trips.

But if Simon doesn’t accept these shares, it would be challenging for Sylvia Langley to proceed with her divorce plans.

Oh, the dilemma.
