Jiefang Street Primary School.
The sky was a dark red, the snow was unusually heavy for an island nation, and the archway was completely different from Tokyo's. This was not a dream for an island nation.
This is the dream of China, filled with the eerie and the sense of antiquity of time.
This isn't Huaiyin's dream, perhaps... perhaps it's Doutang's dream?
Huaiyin knew that he came from China in another world, but he had never told her about his past. Why would she dream of such a scene?
The vermilion lacquer on the red pillars of the archway is old and cracked, and the dragons and phoenixes on the plaque have faded, exuding an air of antiquity and eeriness.
Behind the archway is a long downhill slope. At the bottom of the slope, you can see an old stage at the end of the road. The stage backdrop is painted with red scenes from the 1980s, and young children with red scarves around their necks are happily smiling and saluting the red flag.
Just then, a voice came from behind.
"Crunch, crunch..." That was the sound of someone stumbling through the snow.
Huaiyin turned around and saw a boy walking step by step through the snow in the middle of the streetlights on both sides.
The boy's worn-out down jacket and his red, frostbitten face revealed that he came from a poor family. On his back was a younger girl, her lips purple from the cold, wearing a military overcoat, lying on his back with her eyes closed.
The dream whispered in the locust tree: That was a year of unforgettable heavy snow.
"Xiao Yin, we're almost there. Hang in there, don't fall asleep. Let the doctor take a look at you, okay?" The boy shivered, his teeth chattering. His damp cotton pants were icy cold, making every step a torment.
"Um, um... Brother, I'm so cold."
"It won't be cold once we're inside the clinic, it won't be cold anymore," the boy continued to comfort her, breathing heavily. Seeing him breathing in such a cold place, Huaiyin even felt as if her throat and lungs were being pricked with needles.
The boy walked past one street lamp after another until he came to a shop on the side of the street. The shop had an antique-style plaque, but the characters were blurry and illegible.
"Doctor! Doctor!" The boy pressed the emergency call bell on the door anxiously. He heard someone rushing out of bed from inside, and then the wooden door opened, revealing a sleepy-eyed man in a white coat.
"My sister, my sister has a fever! Doctor, please help save her!" The boy stood there, almost frozen to death. His legs were trembling uncontrollably, his eyes were shining, and his nose was red from the cold.
"Come in quickly, hurry!" The doctor quickly took the girl, who was wearing a military overcoat, down from the ground and carried her into the clinic.
A stove was burning in the center of the room. The doctor placed the girl on the bed closest to the stove, then went into the pharmacy next door, asking, "When did she start having a fever?"
The boy squatted by the stove, warming his cold hands by the fire and rubbing his face. He looked anxiously and helplessly at the girl with her eyes closed and replied, "In the evening, we... it was probably too cold at home, and she couldn't hold on much longer."
"Where are the adults at home?" The doctor came out of the house with a syringe and an IV bag. The girl's condition no longer needed to be checked; anyone who looked at her would understand her current situation: a high fever caused by the freezing weather.
“They…they’re busy,” the boy replied after a moment’s hesitation.
"You can't do this no matter how busy you are!" the doctor cursed, then began to look for veins in the girl. He didn't even use a belt because the girl's body was too thin and frail, her palms were slender and pale, and her bluish-purple veins were clearly visible.
The boy didn't reply, he just stared at the girl, silently shedding tears.
Seeing the boy's tears, Huaiyin felt a sharp pain in her heart.
"What's your name, kid?"
Upon hearing this, the boy wiped away his tears and looked at the doctor, saying, "Uncle, my name is... Ren Doutang."
...Doutang?!
Huaiyin was immediately startled.
Is the person in front of me my brother? No, should I say, is it the brother I'm seeing now?!
What is this? His memories? Why am I dreaming about these things?!
Just then, a series of urgent knocks on the door startled Huaiyin awake.
"Dong dong dong..."
She suddenly opened her eyes and felt a dampness and cold.
Meanwhile, there was constant knocking on the door.
"Dong dong dong..."
Cold and mechanical, the person outside the door seemed both anxious and calm, with great force, almost banging on the door, thumping incessantly.
Huaiyin felt a chill in her heart.
At times like this... who would be knocking on the door?
The eerie knocking echoed through her home, where no one else lived, sending chills down her spine.
Who is knocking on the door?
Chapter 10 You knock on the door and I'll tear you apart!
A chilly breeze seeped in through the crack in the door, making Huaiyin acutely aware that the person outside was definitely not normal.
"Dong dong dong..."
The knocking was mechanical, and the person standing outside the door seemed more like a machine than a person.
Who is it? Or rather... what is it?!
Is it because of my own spirit-absorbing constitution? And why did it have to happen when Dou Tang wasn't around?
Moisture slowly seeped in from outside the door, making the air feel sticky, like the indoor atmosphere during the rainy season, which was quite uncomfortable.
The knocking outside the window grew louder, but strangely, no one in the entire apartment woke up; it seemed as if only she could hear the knocking.
Is this the effect of resentment? In any case, Huaiyin still doesn't know what kind of distance this is. Many of the evil spirits they encounter seem to have the ability to shield people from anything other than their target.
In other words, apart from those targeted by evil spirits, no one else can hear the noise they make, but it's a different story if someone witnesses it.
Huaiyin took a deep breath, made up her mind, and turned on her PS4.
Her movements were incredibly calm.
Then, she opened the rhythm game and chose... the noisiest song.
"The Girl Whose Brains Exploded!"
Loud! Play it out! She unplugged her headphones and plugged in the super-powerful speaker that she had been pestering Dou Tang for a long time before finally buying it!
Yamaha NS-PA41 series speakers! Two massive pillar-shaped speakers, two surround speakers, a center speaker, and a subwoofer that, when turned up to maximum, can wake up the entire building!
Die, you little brat!
Hatsune Miku's high-pitched voice rang out, along with the catchy nature of the song itself, and the noisy rhythm game sound of blocks missing due to the lack of any input.
In an instant, the water in the glass on the table trembled!
Huaiyin stood in the room with a mischievous grin on his face, hands on his hips, turned on all the lights, and looked proudly and smugly at the door!
I told you not to cause trouble, huh? You dare cause trouble in the middle of the city? And knocking on doors in the middle of the night, disturbing the peace?
Let me show you what real disturbance to the neighbors looks like!
"What are you doing!"
A gasp came from next door; it seemed Huaiyin's strategy had worked, and someone had been woken up.
"Who's playing music?! Don't they know people have to go to work tomorrow?!"
"Damn it, who is it?!"
Exclamations and roars filled the corridor, while the knocking on the door became even more urgent, but Huaiyin remained completely calm.
At this moment, someone finally couldn't hold back any longer, and the sound of a door opening came from the corridor as someone stepped out.
In the corridor, a resident had just rolled up his sleeves and stepped out of the door when he froze.
"Huff... snoring..."
In the corridor, a strange figure was frantically banging on a tightly closed door, and the music was coming from inside that door.
The middle-aged man was holding a baseball bat, and his forearm, which he had rolled up, revealed tattoos. He looked fierce, but his ferocity was nothing compared to the eerie person in the corridor.
The man's body was swollen, his entire body was soaked in water and white, his swollen, thick hands kept pounding on the door, his fingers were broken, and foul water and dirty blood flowed from his wounds.
The person was about 1.7 meters tall, but looked over 1.8 meters tall. His body was abnormally swollen from being submerged in water, making him appear even taller. His clothes were tattered, and his sparse hair hung loosely on his head.
That's not a person at all; it's a corpse.
The horrifying sight before him made the man lose his courage, and he quickly shrank back.
At that moment, a tall man walked up to the fourth floor, coldly listening to the music and knocking sounds in the corridor.
Many doors in the corridor were open, but most of the guests shrank back into their rooms the moment they saw the terrifying object, only daring to peek at the corpse through slightly open doors, and no one dared to make a sound.
Fear... that's the eerie feeling that comes from a scene in a horror or supernatural movie when it comes to reality.
Dou Tang stood at the end of the corridor, coldly watching the body controlled by the evil spirit, and waved his hand to stop Lu Zizhen, who wanted to go upstairs to take pictures.
"There are too many witnesses here. I don't want to move out anytime soon. Please stop taking pictures."
Nodding, understanding that the situation was not one to be disrupted, Lu Zizhen silently turned off the GoPro.
Dou Tang rubbed his hands together, and then a pink light flashed all over his body, and a jelly bean-shaped figure appeared, so big that one person could block most of the corridor.
He remained silent, then began to run, as if he were treating the corridor before him as a racetrack, and he was the runner on that track. He had only one goal: to defeat all the other runners in front of him and achieve victory.
The earth trembled, and amidst the knocking and music, a new sound forcefully pierced through.
"Whoosh—" He moved with a gust of wind, and only then did the people in the corridor realize that a new being had intruded into their space, and he was clearly more terrifying and incomprehensible than the corpse.
Charge! Grab him!
In a mere instant, amidst the shocked gazes of all the residents, Fall Guy rushed to the corpse, stretched out his long cylindrical arm, grabbed it, and dragged the swollen body away from the doorway.
The thick stench and resentment stimulated Dou Tang's senses, but at this moment he only felt excitement, the excitement of seeing his prey.
With a pull, the immense force caused the swollen corpse's skin to burst, and the filthy blood and slime did nothing to stop the Fall Guys' attack.
Then, Dou Tang used a move that countless Fall Guys players both love and hate.
push.
But this push contained boundless power.
"Oh!"
It was like a bomb exploding in the corridor!
The push of the two palms made the door frame tremble. The huge hand, which could completely cover a human's head with a single grip, suddenly exerted force, and an incomprehensible surge of power erupted!
"Snapped!"
The flesh and skin ripped open, and the swollen corpse was sent flying!
In the world of Fall Guys, this pull and push is undeniably simple. To win, you must attack your friends or teammates, but ultimately, it doesn't matter to anyone, since...
Water just fell into a sweet milkshake, so what does winning or losing matter?
But in reality, Dou Tang must win, and this body also contains power far beyond what normal people can understand!
The swollen corpse exploded, its chest cavity bursting open, and it lay down on its back, motionless.
As the Fall Guy went up, wisps of black resentment emanated from the corpse and then seeped into its eyes.
As the dust settled, Huaiyin, who had guessed what had happened from the commotion, stopped listening to the music, and the corridor fell silent.
The Fall Guy slowly turned around and looked across the entire corridor.
"Bang bang bang!"
None of the residents who wanted to watch the show dared to speak. They quickly closed their doors, and their heightened hearing allowed them to hear the frantic calls to the police through the door.
Fortunately, there were no security cameras in this apartment building...
Run away first, come back tomorrow morning and say you went out to spend the night with friends... Yeah, that's it, then pretend to get a call from Huaiyin and rush back.
Although he had quickly planned his escape route, this incident undoubtedly served as a reminder to Dou Tang.
Sure enough, something troublesome had its eye on him.
This made him feel very...excited.
Finally, the competition could officially begin. This thought suddenly popped into his mind.
Chapter 11 Handling the Aftermath
The police have arrived.
Several police officers from the Toyoshima Ward Police Station cordoned off the fourth floor of the apartment building, questioning each person one by one. Looking at the swollen and decomposing corpses lying on the floor in the corridor, the officers felt a deep sense of dread.
"A paranormal event... a real paranormal event. This corpse has been dead for about a week, and it drowned. The dead are harassing the living, and then a pink jelly bean-like creature punched its way into its chest cavity. How am I supposed to submit a report like this?"
The lead officer shook his head, anxiously pulling at the stubble on his chin, plucking it out one by one; the slight pain kept him alert.
