Chapter 77. Strucker: I didn't try to sow discord.
Strucker shook his head, ran his hands over his body, and finding nothing amiss, said, "This is the Truth-Revealing Magic? I don't feel anything at all?"
Ji Yuan ignored him and instead gave Steve a look.
Steve nodded, turned on the camera he hadn't used before, and asked, "Who are the core leaders of Hydra now, and what positions do they hold?"
Strucker instinctively spoke up: "Alexander Pierce, former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and secretary-general of the World Security Council."
After saying that, he immediately covered his mouth and looked at Ji Yuan: "This—unbelievable, I can't even utter a single untrue word."
Immediately afterward, a sense of unease welled up inside me. I had already said everything; what else could I use as leverage? Whether I could even leave alive was now a question.
"Pierce—" Steve's face was somewhat grim. He naturally recognized this person; he had met him when he first woke up. He was the Secretary General of the Security Council, the permanent chief executive officer of the council, with immense power. He never expected Hydra to have gone this far; it was unbelievable.
"Go on," Steve said coldly.
Strucker blurted out again, seemingly out of control: "Gideon Malik, he's a member of the Security Council, and—"
After rattling off a series of names, he stopped and looked at the gloomy Steve.
Steve felt a headache coming on; the infiltration was more serious than he had imagined. After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Where's Nick Fury?"
"Is Nick Fury not Hydra?"
Strucker shook his head and spoke the truth: "Fury is just a tool Pierce uses to create a perfect world. I must say, Fury is really talented at making tools."
"Just a tool?" Steve was somewhat disappointed. Judging from Fury's bizarre decisions, he seemed too much like Hydra. It was a pity that he wasn't.
"Go on, tell us everything about your base and your plans."
Under Steve's questioning, Strucker told him everything he knew.
Although he has the records, the most crucial information will never be stored on any device.
As the questioning ended, Steve's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot; things were more serious than he had anticipated.
Infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D., Project Insight, Project Winter Soldier, Project Paperclip, Project Split—
Every plan undermines the stability of the world.
In particular, Project Insight, through some kind of algorithm, predicted that all those who posed a potential threat to Hydra's future rule would be eliminated globally in one fell swoop, instantly establishing Hydra's hegemony.
The number of deaths could reach millions, or even tens of millions.
Unbelievable.
Steve was angry and disappointed.
Hydra is almost ruling the world, and nobody seems to notice anything amiss?
Fury, in particular, did many things that were even more Hydra-like than Hydra's.
Even according to Strucker, if Fury were to join Hydra, he would be an unprecedented leader.
Steve looked at Strucker, held out his hand, and said, "Alright, hand over the data."
Strucker paused for a moment, then quickly took a hard drive out of his bag and placed it in Steve's hand.
Then, the horror in his eyes deepened. Wasn't it supposed to be a truth-telling magic? How come his body was being controlled?
Tony took the hard drive from Steve, and asked with a hint of doubt and trembling, "Was my parents' death related to Hydra?"
Ever since Ji Yuan reminded him that he would learn the truth about some things, he should remain calm.
Stark listened carefully to every word Strucker said. Hydra's plans were indeed terrifying, but not enough to make him lose his mind.
Strucker nodded and smiled, saying, "Your parents were killed by Hydra using the Winter Soldier program. There was no way around it; he was a very high-risk individual in the Insight program and a major obstacle to Hydra's domination plan."
"Who made Howard so smart that he was able to replicate the Super Soldier Serum from back then? Back then, the Super Soldier Serum was something Hydra would never allow to fall into the hands of other forces."
"you!"
Stark's eyes immediately reddened, and the energy cannon in his mech's hand gathered, ready to kill Stark.
"Tony."
Steve grabbed Stark's arm and whispered, "Hydra will be wiped out soon. Let Strucker live a few more days, and I'll take care of their top brass in one fell swoop."
Stark trembled slightly, but eventually lowered his hand. He had calmed down; killing one Hydra was not enough, he had to kill them all.
Strucker's face then flushed slightly, as if some force was controlling him. He looked at Steve and said, "By the way, Steve, the executor of the Winter Soldier program is your good brother Bucky. Yes, he's not dead yet. He's been brainwashed by Hydra and turned into a tool for assassinations."
"What?!!"
Steve grabbed Strucker and, with an invisible surge of telekinesis, caused all the objects in the room to float.
Thoughts churned in Steve's mind, a mix of emotions swirling within him. His best brother had killed his comrade-in-arms, and his comrade's son was even standing by. An indescribable feeling surged within Steve.
Stark froze, his eyes widening in disbelief. His complex gaze swept between Strucker and Steve, a mixture of anger, pain, and bewilderment on his face.
"Tony," Steve's voice softened unusually, "I—I'm sorry."
"Bucky and Howard are comrades-in-arms, and I don't think he'd want to do this, Hydra—"
An eerie silence fell over the scene.
"Hey, soldiers."
Ji Yuan's sudden voice broke the silence of the scene.
"If you ask me, you've fallen for Strucker's scheme. He's trying to sow discord among you. No wonder he's one of the leaders of Hydra."
They're still playing mind games at a time like this!
"Bucky has been brainwashed into an unconscious tool. We should target the person who uses the tool, not the tool itself, shouldn't we?"
After hearing Ji Yuan's words, Steve and Stark unexpectedly calmed down; what he said made sense.
Destroy all Hydra!
Strucker glanced at Ji Yuan in horror, wanting to speak but unable to open his mouth.
Steve and Stark then conducted a friendly visit to Strucker to comfort him as a prisoner of war.
Strucker said tremblingly, "Bucky should be in the old Hydra base in Siberia. Don't hit me. You know, different factions have different information. I've told you everything I know."
Steve nodded and punched Strucker unconscious.
Stark also manipulated Jarvis to get the entire base running again, maintaining a facade of calm before executing the final roundup plan to avoid alerting the enemy.
Steve stepped out of the base and looked towards the war-torn Sokovia region. The warm sunlight shone on the ruins, seemingly representing hope.
Now, let's end the war in Sokovia.
