Chapter 14 Prologue
Chapter 14 Prologue
Upon seeing this scene, he immediately realized something was wrong.
He then quickly approached the enemy, simultaneously raising his anti-materiel sniper rifle.
Then, he looked up at the other man's head from behind and said, "Hey, big guy in front, where did this dog come from? Where is its owner? Tell me if you can communicate."
As he spoke, the boy's finger was already on the trigger. After all, in the Eastern Capital Wasteland, the probability of super mutants being able to communicate was extremely low.
However, this time, Huo Yuhao encountered it.
Upon hearing the voice, Dogmeat immediately turned around and started running towards him, while the super mutant also turned around to look at him.
He looked at himself as he raised his gun to aim, and at the same time he saw the dog meat running up to him.
Then he spoke, in a rough, slow voice typical of a super mutant, "It seems it recognizes you..."
Hearing him say that, he simply continued aiming, then said sternly, "Answer my question, where is the owner of the dog meat?"
"He was captured by the Enclave forces. I watched them leave in a Flying Bird helicopter, so Dogmeat and I decided to go there to find him," he said, raising his hands slightly to indicate that he had no intention of attacking me.
Upon hearing this, Huo Yuhao glanced at Dog Meat beside him. Seeing that Dog Meat was unharmed by the super mutant soldier, he began to believe the other party.
After all, he had seen it with his own eyes: in the East, super mutants basically wouldn't leave normal creatures around; where those guys were usually located, there were usually large bags of minced meat and limbs.
The fact that the dog meat could stay by the side of this person without any problems, and that the person could even communicate with it, shows that the person has retained the rationality that they once had as a human.
Therefore, Huo Yuhao put down his anti-materiel sniper rifle and asked, "So, where is Enclave going?"
"That helicopter flew in that direction." He said, turning and pointing in that direction.
Seeing this, Huo Yuhao followed him there, naturally trailing behind him.
He also realized his own thoughts, since it was unlikely that he could completely trust the other person after meeting them for the first time.
So he talked to himself along the way.
During this process, he learned that his name was Fox and that he came from Vault 87, which was used as an experimental site for the forced evolution virus. It could be said that most of the super mutants in the Capital Wasteland escaped from there.
As for Long Wande going there, it was for the Eden Creation Device. He helped Long Wande get that thing, and Long Wande helped him release it from there.
What happened next was that Long Wande was captured by the Enclave.
After these conversations, he learned what was going on, and Fox was surprised that he had come from the West Coast and that there were super mutants there who, like him, retained human sanity.
The two sides were no longer as wary as when they first met, and both ran wildly in the direction the Enclave had flown.
Just as the two people and the dog were walking, a small mountain not far ahead suddenly exploded. The explosion was even larger than the one in Boulder City, becoming a rare and enormous firework in this wasteland of the capital.
This situation made Huo Yuhao and his group realize that the Enclave base was located there, so they immediately quickened their pace.
When they ran to the vicinity, they saw a familiar figure standing there, looking at the hill after the explosion.
He turned to look at us, and Long Wande looked surprised that we had come over, since he hadn't left any clues after being knocked unconscious and taken away by Enclave.
At the same time, he also learned what had happened after he left.
Long Wande's father once worked on a clean water project to ensure that residents of the capital wasteland could drink clean, radiation-free water, but the project was unsuccessful.
Later, when Long Wande grew up, he left the shelter in order to gather his former colleagues and continue the plan.
After the father and son reunited, they continued with the plan.
Just as they were completing the clean water project inside the Jefferson Memorial, Enclave's Flying Bird helicopters appeared in the air and then took control of the entire Jefferson Memorial.
The Enclave's purpose was to control the water purification equipment there, and then release a modified version of the forced evolution virus to purify, or kill, all the creatures in the capital wasteland, in order to complete what they called reconstruction.
Long Wand's father did not agree, and under threat from the Enclave colonel, he risked his life to overload the equipment, creating chaos for the Enclave forces and giving Long Wand and his men a chance to escape.
Afterwards, Long Wande broke through their encirclement and, with the other members of Project Clean Water, went to the Brotherhood of Steel in the Pentagon for refuge.
This was also in order to reclaim the Jefferson Memorial and continue the Clean Water Project.
He learned from Elder Lyons of the Brotherhood of Steel that the Eden Creator needed for the Clean Water Project might be in Vault 87.
What happened next was that before he left, the Enclave forces reappeared, and when he woke up, he was at the Enclave base located there.
One of them was the supercomputer that served as President Enclave, who was tasked with distributing the virus through water purification equipment.
Meanwhile, a rebellion broke out within Enclave, where soldiers fought against robots controlled by a supercomputer. After Long Wande tricked the supercomputer into self-destructing under these circumstances, the entire Enclave experienced the explosion we just witnessed.
Long Wande escaped from the chaos and encountered Huo Yuhao and his group who had come looking for him.
Having learned of the current situation, he glanced at Fox beside him and then asked Long Wand, "How long do you plan to operate now?"
Upon hearing this, Long Wande looked at Huo Yuhao with some surprise, then glanced at Fox beside him, and said hesitantly, "I plan to return to the Brotherhood of Steel first, and then, once they're ready, we'll go and retake the Jefferson Memorial... But what are you planning to do?"
In response, he spoke up, saying, "Count me in. We absolutely cannot let Enclave succeed."
Fox, who was standing to the side, nodded in agreement. After all, after hearing about the Enclave's plan, everyone felt that these people didn't care about the lives of the residents in the Capital Wasteland at all.
Meanwhile, Gou Rou was wagging its tail beside Long Wande.
Seeing this, Long Wande nodded and led the group to the Brotherhood of Steel.
When Huo Yuhao and his group returned to the Brotherhood of Steel at the Pentagon, the new recruits who had just joined the Brotherhood of Steel instinctively became wary upon seeing Fox, a super mutant.
Among them, the most senior paladins were all unconsciously impressed upon seeing Huo Yuhao's equipment.
After all, they also came from the West. However, at that time, the conflict between the Brotherhood of Steel and New California was not so serious, and the two sides even had a cooperative relationship.
Therefore, the paladins from the West Coast felt like they were hallucinating when they saw Huo Yuhao in his New California Ranger gear. After all, they had never imagined that such a figure would appear on the other side of the continent.
However, they did not talk much with the Brotherhood of Steel members, but went directly to Lyons, who was an elder.
Lyons, who had just received the Eden Creator from Long Wand, immediately handed it over to the researchers in charge of the water purification project. He then arranged for Long Wand and Fox to rest, but left Huo Yuhao behind.
Then the room was empty except for the two of them.
At this moment, Lyons spoke first, "I didn't expect to see a guy wearing this outfit here. Long Wande told me about you before, but seeing you in person still makes me feel a bit emotional."
"It's been almost twenty years since we received the expedition order, and we've long lost contact with our headquarters on the West Coast."
"Son, can you tell me about the situation on the West Coast?"
Upon hearing this, he looked into the eyes of the old man in front of him and began to recount the situation on the West Coast over the years.
After listening to Huo Yuhao's story, he sighed silently.
He then spoke up, saying, "Should we make a move against me now? After all, I fought the Brotherhood of Steel back in Mojave."
Upon hearing this, Lyons simply smiled helplessly, then said, "You know in your heart that I won't do that. The decline of the West Coast Brotherhood of Steel is inevitable..."
Hearing him say that, Huo Yuhao nodded. He certainly believed that Lyons wouldn't kill him here just because he had fought the Brotherhood of Steel in Mojave. Otherwise, he would have led the Brotherhood of Steel in the East to do those things in the capital wasteland.
However, the boy still asked, "But I'm curious, why did you choose a completely different path after you came here?"
Upon hearing this, the old man simply said, "From the West Coast to the East Coast, we haven't changed; we've always followed the old rules."
"But as we arrived in this wasteland of the capital, and as I sit here, I gradually realized a problem: we are desperately collecting pre-war technology to prevent it from repeating the mistakes of the people before the war."
"And all of this is for the purpose of protecting humanity, protecting people from having to experience such insane wars and horrific experiments again."
"But the reality is that I'm sitting here, while the residents of the capital wasteland outside are struggling to survive under the threat of super mutants, bandits, and the Enclave, struggling to fill their stomachs and drinking water contaminated by radiation every day."
"If this is how reality should be, then what was the purpose of the pre-war technology we collected before...?"
The boy understood what he meant. During his time in the wasteland of the capital, he had seen all of this. He had witnessed the current state of affairs and understood the situation now.
Just as the chaos in the Capital Wasteland was instigated by the Enclave, after all, a chaotic wasteland is far more advantageous to them than a unified wasteland organization.
Even though the Enclaves considered themselves a continuation of the pre-war government, they never actually did anything meaningful for this wasteland.
The Enclave, high above, had long since separated themselves from the wasteland, regarding the wasteland's inhabitants as things contaminated by radiation, things that could be eliminated at will.
At this moment, Huo Yuhao continued, "Even if some people oppose this, and it becomes an exile after leaving the Brotherhood of Steel, doesn't that matter?"
Lyons said, "There will always be people who disagree, but some things need to be done, and efforts need to be made to change the current situation. Even if some people disagree, we cannot remain unchanged and ignore what is happening in front of us."
"But we were lucky that most of our members chose to do these things with me, and many people from the Capital Wasteland also came to participate."
Hearing this, he nodded, but in the end, he still asked, knowing full well what was going on, "You really can't contact headquarters anymore?"
Lyons simply smiled and said nothing.
Huo Yuhao then stayed there temporarily to prepare for the upcoming battle against the Enclave, and Lyons also acknowledged Huo Yuhao's abilities.
Because he had once led a team from the West Coast to the East Coast, he knew the difficulties along the way, not to mention that Huo Yuhao was someone who had accomplished all of this.
Of course, he also asked Lyons to check if there was any way to get home inside the Pentagon, but he did so under the pretext of searching for some kind of technology.
If you say it directly, the other party certainly won't be able to fully believe it.
Lyons only granted Huo Yuhao access to the catalog and descriptions, as it wouldn't be right for the Brotherhood of Steel to completely open up the information to him.
However, the permission to view the directory and introduction was already enough for Huo Yuhao.
Over the next few days, he researched a lot of information and saw many things he had never heard of before. He even learned about the true purpose of Helios 1: a space-based weapon that relied on satellites to absorb solar energy to power attacks on the ground...
In the end, the boy still couldn't find a way home.
Although he was somewhat saddened, he had gotten used to it and began preparing for the upcoming battle against the Enclave forces.
A few days later, he made final adjustments to the anti-material sniper rifle in his hand, replacing all the bullets with armor-piercing rounds, and did the same to the redwood revolver.
Meanwhile, Long Wand and Fox were making their final preparations, but Dogmeat remained at the Pentagon, as the battle was far too dangerous.
However, the paladins watching the boy adjust the gun couldn't help but feel a little emotional.
Because they knew the boy's age, where he came from, and how he got there, many paladins did not treat him as a child who had not yet grown up. They knew in their hearts how difficult the journey from west to east was.
Therefore, these paladins treated Huo Yuhao with respect.
After he finished preparing, he looked at the huge thing in front of him.
Liberty Supreme is a 12-meter-tall robot that can throw small nuclear bombs and shoot lasers from its eyes.
It was originally designed for propaganda purposes before the war, since such a large target would be a prime target on the battlefield before the war.
But at this moment, the power of the Liberty Supreme can deal a huge blow to the Enclave.
This operation was led by Lyons' daughter, Sarah, and its goal was to retake the Jefferson Memorial.
At that moment, with the order to act given, everyone present began to move out.
