Chapter 70 The Interview Ends
Chapter 70 The Interview Ends
As he was thinking this, the two people walked over.
The man walking in front saw Li Si'an leaning against the wall, slowed his pace, and nodded to him as a greeting. Li Si'an nodded back.
The man walked to the door of Chen Hanwen's office and knocked. He knocked three times, but no one answered. He knocked three more times, but still no response.
He took a step back and glanced at the piece of paper pasted on the door—it had the words "Chen Hanwen" printed on it, with the word "Director" in smaller print below.
He turned around and looked at Li Si'an.
"Hello, is Director Chen here?"
Li Si'an straightened up from leaning against the wall and replied, "Yes. I just took some people next door to take pictures, so it'll probably be a while."
The man said "Oh," leaned against the wall on the other side of the corridor, tucked the black folder under his arm, took out a cigarette case, put one in his mouth, then remembered something, took the cigarette off and put it back in the cigarette case.
"Smoking isn't allowed here." He chuckled self-deprecatingly. "Foreign companies have a lot of rules."
Li Si'an smiled but didn't reply.
The man sized him up. "You're...from Director Chen's side?"
"No, I came with a friend." Li Si'an gestured towards the photography studio with her chin. "We're here for an interview."
"Oh? Is that the same job as Mei Deng Gao?" The man became interested. "Is your friend a model?"
"Um."
The man nodded without asking any further questions. A few seconds of silence filled the corridor. Gao Yuanyuan stood behind the man, still clutching the A4 paper in her hand, her gaze sweeping over Li Si'an's face before returning to him.
Li Si'an felt that gaze. He turned his head and met Gao Yuanyuan's eyes.
Gao Yuanyuan didn't dodge. She just looked at him, her eyes filled with curiosity, as if she were looking at something she had never seen before in a shop window.
Her eyes weren't particularly large, but they were beautifully shaped, with the outer corners slightly downturned, giving her a gentle look.
Li Si'an smiled at her. It wasn't a deliberate, flirtatious smile, just the polite smile of a nodding acquaintance.
Gao Yuanyuan's lips twitched, and she smiled. Her smile revealed a row of neat white teeth, but her lips were pursed, as if she were a little embarrassed.
"Which company are you from?" the man suddenly asked.
"What?"
"I think you're a good catch." The man looked him up and down, his gaze more like that of someone looking at a product than a person. "You're tall enough, and your face is photogenic. If you want to do some dating cams, I can help you submit your resume."
Li Si'an laughed. "No need, I'm just here with a friend, I won't be filming this."
"What a pity." The man shook his head, pulled a business card from his folder, and handed it over. "Zhou Kangyu, project manager at Saatchi & Saatchi. If you change your mind, you can contact me."
Li Si'an took the business card and glanced at it. Zhou Kangyu. Below the name was the logo of "GG Company, Great Wall International" and a line of small print.
"Okay, thank you, Manager Zhou." He put the business card in his pocket.
Zhou Kangyu leaned against the wall and glanced at him again. "What's your friend's name?"
"Tang Rhyme".
"Tang Yun." Zhou Kangyu read the name aloud, then nodded. "A good name."
He paused, then spoke again. "Director Chen personally took her to take photos; she seems to be quite attractive."
"It's alright," Li Si'an said. "Director Zhang Yibai recommended it."
Zhou Kangyu raised an eyebrow. "Zhang Yibai? The Zhang Yibai who directed the music video?"
"right."
"No wonder." Zhou Kangyu smiled. "Director Chen has to give face to people recommended by Director Zhang."
Gao Yuanyuan stood to the side, listening to their conversation, her gaze falling on Li Si'an's face again. This time, she didn't look away, staring at him openly and honestly.
Li Si'an turned her head to look at her, and she smiled again, this time less reserved, with a wider curve at the corners of her mouth.
A thought suddenly popped into Li Si'an's mind.
In his past life, he had come across an interview with Gao Yuanyuan online. The reporter asked her if she was superficial and that good looks weren't the only standard. At the time, he didn't think much of it, just that she was a very considerate person.
But now, Gao Yuanyuan is standing in front of him, and the way she looks at him is so open and generous, with a slight smile on her lips, as if she is admiring something beautiful.
He recalled that interview and looked into her eyes again.
Haha, you say you're not superficial, but your eyes tell a different story.
At least seventeen years old, she doesn't hide her admiration for handsome men at all.
"Are you here for an interview too?" Li Si'an asked.
Gao Yuanyuan nodded, holding up the A4 paper in her hand and waving it around. "Yeah, Brother Zhou said I should give it a try."
"Have you filmed this before?"
"No." Gao Yuanyuan's voice was crisp, with a touch of the straightforwardness unique to BJ girls. "I'm still in high school."
Which high school?
"Ganjiakou Middle School."
"Oh, we're not far apart. I'm from the Affiliated High School of Beijing Dance Academy."
Gao Yuanyuan's eyes lit up, and she was about to reply when the sound of a door opening came from the other end of the corridor. The studio door opened, and Chen Hanwen poked half his body out, calling out to Li Si'an:
"Li Si'an, come in here for a moment."
Li Si'an responded, straightened up from the wall, and nodded to Zhou Kangyu and Gao Yuanyuan. "I'll go first."
Zhou Kangyu waved his hand. Gao Yuanyuan smiled back at him, still clutching the A4 paper in her hand, the edges of which were curled up even more.
Li Si'an walked towards the photography studio. After taking a few steps, he noticed out of the corner of his eye that Gao Yuanyuan's gaze was still following him.
He didn't turn around.
The studio door was open, and most of the lights inside were off, with only two soft lights still on.
The makeup artist was packing up. Tang Yun stood in front of the backdrop, her face still bearing traces of blush, holding the prop bottle of Meidengo ice cream, and looking down at the ingredient list on the packaging.
Chen Hanwen stood by the table, holding a stack of newly photographed Polaroid films, examining them under the light. He flipped through two, paused on the third, and then glanced back at Tang Yun.
"Alright. I'll talk to the client later, and have Director Zhang let you know if there's any news."
Tang Yun put the ice cream back on the prop table, walked over, and stood next to Li Si'an. She had removed most of her makeup, but there was still a light layer of lip gloss on her lips, making them sparkle.
"How is it?" Li Si'an asked.
"I don't know," Tang Yun said softly. "Director Chen didn't say anything."
Chen Hanwen straightened up from his computer, picked up the thermos on the table, unscrewed the lid, and took a sip. He glanced at Li Si'an, then at Tang Yun, his lips twitched, but he didn't say anything.
Li Si'an knew she couldn't keep asking questions at a time like this. Filming was finished; she just had to wait for news. That was all.
"We'll be going now. Thank you, Director Chen."
Chen Hanwen nodded, put down his thermos, picked up the phone on the table, and dialed a number.
Li Si'an pulled Tang Yun out of the photography studio, where Zhou Kangyu and Gao Yuanyuan were still waiting in the corridor. Zhou Kangyu saw Chen Hanwen coming out of the studio and went to greet him.
"Director Chen, this is Zhou Kangyu. I made an appointment with you before, and I brought a girl along to give it a try."
Chen Hanwen glanced at Gao Yuanyuan and nodded. "Come in."
Gao Yuanyuan followed Chen Hanwen into the photography studio, with Zhou Kangyu following behind. The door closed. Li Si'an and Tang Yun were left alone in the corridor.
Tang Yun leaned against the wall and let out a long breath.
"Let's go." Li Si'an reached out and put his arm around her waist.
The two walked towards the elevator. Tang Yun took a couple of steps, then suddenly turned back and glanced at the studio door.
"Do you know that girl?" she asked.
"I don't know her," Li Si'an said. "She looks like she's here for an interview."
Tang Yun said "oh" and didn't ask any more questions.
