He looked at Dumbledore, his heart beginning to pound with anxiety. What if Dumbledore also believed that he and Darren had done it?

He either takes everything upon himself, like Darren does.

But then he immediately realized that if he did that, Darren would probably be eager to confess with him.

Snape might then suggest firing them both without investigating.

Don't think about it.

Harry had no doubt that Snape would do such a thing. Because Snape particularly disliked him and Darren.

And last year Harry had been suspecting that he had physically abused Darren behind his back.

Unfortunately, despite Darren's insistence, he still believed last year that Snape hadn't done anything to Darren.

But seeing Snape's expression just now, he immediately abandoned his previous trust.

Darren is too kind and naive.

He was definitely lying on purpose to reassure his brother and put his mind at ease. It's quite possible he was covering for Snape.

Harry sighed.

Then his eyes met Snape's.

He saw Snape looking at him with disgust, as if they had some deep-seated hatred between them.

Dumbledore clearly said that his father saved Snape!

Harry just couldn't understand why Snape hated him so much.

"It must have been a curse that killed it... I suspect it was a transmutation torture spell..."

It's such a shame I wasn't there. If I had been... I definitely could have saved it.

Lockhart broke the silence. Filch wailed. He sobbed, “Mrs. Lorris is dead, my cat… they all know, they all know… I’m a Squib.”

Harry Potter saw this, and he'll definitely tell this little brat.

I knew it! That's why this little brat came to me after Harry Potter saw my letter, saying he wanted to help Harry Potter...

He even cleaned my office by hand. Who would help a doorman?

Filch said, sobbing.

Although this guy is usually quite annoying, he actually looks really pitiful at this moment.

However, compared to Darren, almost no one sympathized with his pitiful state.

"Who would clean your office for so long just to kill your cat?"

Or perhaps poor Mr. Potter has gone mad? Does he think it takes that long to murder a cat?

Snape said in a sarcastic tone.

"Who knows? Who else would... do that?"

Filch's gaze suddenly fell on Harry.

“It’s not that brat, it’s you. You know I’m a Squib, you know… you look down on me…”

"Enough! Argus, Lady Loris is not dead!"

Dumbledore interrupted Filch's accusations against Harry.

"But...but its whole body is stiff...as if it's frozen..."

"It's petrified... just like Darren detected before..."

"I knew it was him, it was this little brat. I've never heard of this spell before."

Only Dumbledore, you and this brat know my cat was petrified. He must have wanted to show off, petrifying my cat and then bringing him back to life!

Filch interrupted Dumbledore loudly, glaring angrily at Darren. Darren pursed his lips, his face pale, and tried to speak in a gentle voice, "Mr. Filch, I've only read about this in books, and my latest antidote can also cure it..."

"See, see, I knew it... He just wanted to promote his antidote, didn't he?"

Oh, by the way, the Ministry of Magic hasn't approved his antidote for market release yet, and he's starting to think of using my cat to promote it!

"If Potter had that kind of brain, he should have petrified you... that way he wouldn't have to listen to all this!"

Snape looked at Filch with disdain.

For the first time, Harry felt that what Snape said was actually quite good.

Although he had heard that Snape looked down on Filch because Filch was always dirty and a Squib.

Of course, he had only just learned the term "dud".

Perhaps Dumbledore also felt that Filch had gone too far, because he put down his wand and said seriously, "Second-year students cannot perform such advanced magic!"

"But Darren Porter is the best one, he might be able to do it, and he can even make the latest antidote... maybe he can?"

Filch roared.

Then he suddenly looked at Snape and asked, "Professor, I overheard the students talking about how you said Darren Porter sneaked out before, is that right?"

"Case solved." Darren scoffed. "Okay."

He explained why Dumbledore had been acting strangely towards him today; it turned out it was because he had run away at the end.

Snape was taken aback by Filch's question.

He hadn't expected that his earlier words, which he wanted Darren to hate him, would be remembered by the students and overheard by Filch.

"Then you'll have to ask young Potter...maybe he can give you an explanation..."

"

"Snape said in a low voice. A sneer appeared on his lips."

He stopped helping Potter. That little brat should understand that he wasn't the gentle, kind Professor Snape.

He was the greasy, cold, disgusting, and repulsive Snape. All eyes were on Darren.

Darren wanted to tell them he had diarrhea. But Little Father certainly couldn't have diarrhea.

and so.

[Ding, detecting a scene where the Holy Father System is in action around the host, a temporary task is now issued:]

Under everyone's watchful eyes, he said with an extremely pale face:

For some reason, I've been hearing strange noises lately, like they're talking about murder, tearing apart...

Right there at the banquet, I suddenly heard that voice.

The sound kept moving, and I could only follow it forward. I heard it seem to stop at the basement toilet.

So, in order to protect it, I stayed there for a long time, until I heard it leave again…

[Ding! The quest has been completed, and you have gained the attention of the basilisk. Do you wish to accept the quest?]

[Accept!]

Chapter 170 I should have said this sooner!!

The basilisk's gaze.

I wonder what kind of reward it will be this time?

But Darren is clearly not someone who would want to miss out on a reward.

After realizing everyone was staring at him, Darren grew paler and paler. When he was completely bloodless, he said with a hint of despair, "Lately, I keep hearing terrifying noises..."

At this point, Harry suddenly asked, "Was it tearing him apart... killing him... tearing him apart..."

"Yes, yes... Brother, how did you know!"

Darren suddenly looked at Harry in horror.

Harry looked back in equal horror.

They clearly understood; they could all hear the sound.

But in order not to worry the other party, neither of them said anything.

Why didn't you tell your brother?

Harry asked anxiously.

"I'm sorry, brother..."

Seeing Darren's guilty expression, Harry sighed deeply.

He didn't tell Darren that he could hear strange noises because he was afraid of worrying him, but he never expected that Darren could hear them too.

And they both thought of the same thing, neither of them telling the other. If either of them had spoken up, they might have found out much sooner. But seeing Darren's increasingly remorseful expression, Harry felt it was mostly his own fault.

He's the older brother, he should speak first.

"Hmph, stop pretending. What terrifying sound is that? I've been in this school for a long time, and I've never heard it before."

"Dumbledore, I think you should hand these two students over to me, and then let me deal with them the way I always have, and make them tell the truth!"
