“You seem to misunderstand, sir,” Xu Fu interrupted him with a smile. “We’re not here to apply for an internship. In fact, my girlfriend and I want to start a business together and try our hand at application development… We’ve learned that your company is at the forefront of related research in the world, so we’d like to propose a collaboration as the starting point for our career.”
For the first time since sitting down, the man looked up and carefully examined the two young men. The boy looked to be no more than twenty years old, and spoke with a natural smile, without the slightest hint of the nervousness one would expect from a young candidate. His eyes, however, revealed a sharp confidence and something else that the man couldn't decipher.
When the young man born in the 080s made a request that sounded like a windfall, the blonde beauty in the back row seemed completely unconcerned. She leaned against the glass on one side of the room, curiously gazing at the app development department next door, her eyelashes fluttering as she blinked, looking quite adorable.
The man couldn't detect the slightest tension emanating from the two men: they gave the impression of generals who had meticulously planned an impenetrable ambush and were now personally leading the charge into enemy territory.
But they aren't, or they really are, completely clueless kids who suddenly made what sounds like an absurd decision on a whim. It's not impossible: young people these days seem to be increasingly quick to accept challenges.
The man rubbed the bridge of his nose and said, "Hmm... I think you might not realize what's happened in this industry right now. Let me double-check... You said you're still in college?"
“Yes.” Xu Fu shrugged, then pointed to Kara by the window. “She doesn’t have a degree… but I assure you that this will not affect our cooperation in the slightest.”
If this were an interview, it would be one of the rarest he had ever seen in his life. Controlling his emotions and trying to make his words sound less harsh, he said, “NuDaines University recruits five outstanding graduates from Harvard, Yale, and Princeton every year. They work in our lab for four years and then move to the applied research department next door. The people you see on the other side of the glass display case are the highest-paid researchers on the planet.…”
"What are they researching?" Xu Fu interrupted him.
“One of our key projects over the past decade has been researching a method to extract electricity directly from water. I’ve been told that there are now only two final equations left.”
"Two equations? How long have they been working on them?"
"It's been almost three years, and the bottleneck is written on the big screen across the room."
Xu Fu took out paper and pen, and without thinking, wrote down a long string of complex chemical equations by hand, then tore up the paper.
"Let's go in, we need to let them see."
The man raised an eyebrow: "Seriously, sir..."
"Show them, and then I'll leave."
The bearded man sighed, took the paper, and stood up. It would only take a glance; it wouldn't take long. He couldn't help but wonder, where did this guy's confidence come from?
A man walked in, and Xu Fu saw him hand a piece of paper to his comrades in the next room. The group huddled together, and the atmosphere quickly became excited. Xu Fu watched them discuss nervously, then greet each other, seemingly about to jump for joy.
Kara remained leaning against the window until she saw this scene, then turned around, stuck out her tongue, and grinned.
At that moment, a man with a small mustache came out, clutching the crumpled piece of paper tightly in his hand. He looked quite different.
"Mr. Xu Fu?"
"Ok?"
"I'll do anything, any condition... but please don't leave, okay?"
Xu Fu couldn't help but smile slightly.
Interestingly, in one of the comics, Clark Kent applies for a job at the same company, and the person in charge of the interview reacts exactly the same way as him.
Just as Xu Fu was about to begin negotiations, Kara suddenly said coldly, "Could I take a look at this (bbfi)?"
She pointed to a spot through the glass, and the two of them followed her slender and graceful finger, their eyes locking onto the side of a heavy machine in the application development department.
“This is our main project,” the bearded man said. “This machine… is hard to explain, but for ten years, no one has been able to get it running successfully. But once it does, its value will surpass all other projects, and it will create immeasurable wealth for us.”
Kara insisted, "I want to see him, even if it's just for three minutes."
The bearded man sighed softly, seemingly in agreement. It was against the rules; employees of lower rank weren't even allowed into the next room, let alone outsiders accessing major projects. But now he desperately wanted to keep Xu Fu; the young man's arrival could significantly elevate their company's status in a very short time.
Besides, what harm is there in letting him appear in front of her for three minutes?
Three minutes later, the machine, which hadn't run for over a decade, emitted a deep rumble, as if awakening from hibernation. Everyone involved in the project couldn't help but cast astonished glances. The bearded man was utterly astonished; he turned to look at Kara, then his gaze shifted to God.
"Well, there are actually some areas that can be improved, but I..."
Before Kara could finish speaking, a person rushed in front of them, like a parched person seeing a savior descend from the sky.
"Please...please be sure to cooperate with our company!"
Having achieved his goal, Xu Fu agreed to the request and arranged to discuss the details of the cooperation in a few days. He then left the company with Kara. The bearded man tried to persuade him to stay, saying that their chairman was already on his way, but Xu Fu insisted that he had plans for the day. In the end, he had no choice but to give up, only giving the two people in the research room a bunch of small trinkets as souvenirs.
Interestingly, they came in like nobodys, lingered in the reception area for over an hour, and left like honored guests. That's how the world works: the incompetent are ignored, while the powerful are revered wherever they go.
They left the company building with great enthusiasm. Kara laughed and said, "I don't understand, do you really know the formula for extracting electricity from water? Is that what they teach in universities?"
"No," Xu Fu admitted, "I taught myself last night, and it took me three to five minutes."
"If they find out that you've learned how to solve problems in three to five minutes—problems that a group of geniuses couldn't solve in three years—they'll be very angry."
"And you?" Xu Fu chuckled softly, "I only learned today that you are skilled in mechanics and electricity."
“I don’t think I understood it either, I only understand it today.” Kara waved her hand. “I just happened to see them working on the machine… and thought it was pretty simple.”
"only?"
“Yes, I learned that phrase in class.” Kara nodded and added, “Back in Krypton, I was ten years old…” She couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed, “Actually, I really hate mechanics and circuits, and I’m still last in that class.”
"So you're telling me that you used skills you learned in a course you took when you were ten to take on a project that geniuses couldn't handle in ten years?" Xu Fu was dumbfounded. "And you're saying I angered them...? At least I read for three minutes."
Chapter 1768 Top Secret
Abandoned factories far from the city
It was pitch black here, especially on moonless nights, with the nearest light source miles away. The abandoned buildings stood like jagged gargoyles, their dark silhouettes towering high, posing pretentiously in the howling wind.
Under the cover of darkness, an equally formidable task force silently advanced toward this forgotten place. They were dressed entirely in black, their color almost blending into the darkness. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, they moved forward cautiously, one by one, with their backs against the earthen walls, like hunters approaching their prey.
The squad moved to a corner near the warehouse entrance and stopped. The captain crouched down, pressed the button on his helmet's headset, and asked in a low voice, "Observer, have you spotted the target?"
"Target confirmed, main entrance, target at 9 o'clock position is next to a row of crates. Recommendation - R-01 formation, proceed."
"I see"
The captain hung up the phone and turned to give a hand gesture to his squad members. The squad members quickly understood. The dark team quietly lowered their profiles and slipped into the warehouse from one side of the door. Each squad member found cover and dispersed into the darkness. The formation quickly spread out into a large net, forming a semi-circle around the row of wooden crates in the middle of the nine o'clock position.
The entire process was completely silent, like a group of night owls moving about in a warehouse. After the captain confirmed that all team members were in position, he raised his hand and made a gesture. The team members, like fishing nets reeling in a catch, quickly gathered together and converged on the "target."
Only three meters away from the wooden crate, a distance that, even through the crate, shouldn't affect the effectiveness of the weapon in their hands. The captain held his gun in his right hand, his left hand on his belt, his fingers already gripping the specially designed grenade for this mission.
However, the observer's tense voice came through the communication line: "Emergency! The target is no longer in this location! I repeat, the target is no longer in this location! The target has been lost!"
The captain's actions left him bewildered, and a deep sense of foreboding washed over him.
The darkness was suddenly ripped apart by a strange green light bursting from behind, causing him to abruptly turn his gun. But it was too late. A cold hand suddenly erupted, slamming into the captain's chest at point-blank range. The energy penetrated the bulletproof fibers, shaking the captain's body, sending him flying back into the darkness like a broken snake. His hand instinctively pulled the trigger, and the gun spit out a long arc of fire into the darkness with a "whoosh."
The team members reacted quickly, turning around hastily. The cold figure was like a death god in his bones; the green halo emanating from his single eye obscured his other features in the dark space. As he moved, that eye flickered through the crowd like a will-o'-the-wisp in the night, appearing only eerie and terrifying.
These special forces soldiers were all highly skilled and well-equipped, but they were powerless against the ghostly green figure. Their bullets struck each other, producing a long, crisp clanging sound as they bounced to the sides. The continuous gunfire scattered intermittently in the darkness, reflecting off the corpses as if shimmering with metallic luster.
From the moment the two sides made contact to the end of the battle, only two minutes passed, and the process could only be described as "horrific." An unsettling scene was shrouded in darkness, with only the flashes of gunfire illuminating the bloodstains and various human organs on the ground. Two minutes later, the gunfire ceased, and the warehouse was littered with corpses. There was no breathing or heartbeat; only one blood-soaked body remained standing, making a crisp, clanging sound as it rose from the pool of blood.
Somewhere away from the bloodstained warehouse, Amanda Waller's obese body was slumped in a chair, her eyes fixed on the screen, her eyebrows almost knitted together. Before her was a massive monitor divided into sixteen sections, each representing a camera on the helmet of one of the team's soldiers. At this moment, all sixteen screens had turned into screensavers, meaning that all sixteen members of the squad had been destroyed.
"Sir, no one from Alpha Team survived." The high-altitude observer's voice came quickly over: "The target has left the scene. Should we continue tracking?"
"No, you retreat first."
"I see"
After the connection ended, Waller simply turned off the noisy monitor, placed his chubby hands in front of him, and frowned thoughtfully.
"Things aren't going too well, are they?"
The hunter's sudden voice made Waller's pupils tighten involuntarily, and his expression twitched for a moment, but he quickly returned to normal.
Amanda Waller turned around as she sat down, stared coldly at the huntress, and shouted, "Who let you in?"
“Sorry, your door is open.” Helena pointed to the entrance of the room, where the door was indeed wide open. But Waller obviously wouldn’t make such a small mistake; Helena had undoubtedly unlocked the door herself.
“You know this is against the rules,” Waller said coldly. “Get out.”
· ·Requesting flowers····· ·······
"You sent an elite squad to capture something?" Helena ignored her orders and asked, "What is it?"
“This is beyond your authority, Huntress. Now, before I decide to punish you….”
“Why didn’t you send me?” Helena didn’t back down, but took another step forward. Her irresistible aura made Waller pale in comparison: “You know, I’m better at handling these kinds of things than anyone on your team.”
Waller remained seated, raising his head to meet Helena's gaze. A cold glint flashed in both their eyes, as if invisible rays were crisscrossing in the air, making it difficult to distinguish one from the other for a moment.
After a long pause, Waller said coldly, “I must warn you, Huntress. These days, dolls with your image on them may be everywhere, and you may be a rising star among the new heroes. But at the same time, you are still a government agent, my agent! So, what you need to do is obey orders, listen carefully to what I say, but don’t ask me any details I haven’t mentioned. Since I’ve chosen not to tell you, I have good reason to do so, understand?”
0.....0
Helena's eyes narrowed slightly.
“So, if it’s clear, then be a good boy, leave here and don’t stop me from doing what I’m doing,” Waller said. “Back to standby mode. I’ll call your huntress if a mission requires you.”
Helena didn't say a word, but simply threw off her cloak and quickly left the room.
Cisco had been listening from behind the door, and as soon as his partner came out, he said, "I think things aren't going too well."
No, but she told me something I wanted to know: she really was hiding something from me.
"Are you kidding me? She's the head of the super-spy department; she's definitely hiding a lot from us."
"Well, why don't we figure out what's going on?"
Cisco was stunned and stared at her incredulously for a long time, as if trying to make sure she wasn't joking.
"How to do it?"
"I wouldn't say Waller's computer has everything we need, but it has at least most of it."
"But I think if we just go back and ask, 'Hey boss, do you mind if I borrow your computer? Because I think I have a Trojan on it...' that definitely won't work."
