Chapter 117 Latest News from the Bedtime Talk

"No! My attention keeps slipping away every five minutes—"

Angelina threw her potions textbook at the foot of the bed, let out a wail, and collapsed onto the bed with the tragic grandeur of a severely wounded dragon.

“I’ve said it before, the history of magic is the best subject to review before bed,” Arya glanced at her friend, yawning as she flipped through a page of her history of magic notes. “It can help you drift off to sleep peacefully.”

“I think OWL is actually a kind of dark magic that destroys young wizards.” Lyra was lying on the bed, organizing her herbalism paper. If you looked closely, you could see a noticeable dark blue under her eyes.

"Why do fifth graders have to endure this torture! Can't they just combine OWL and NEWT into one exam and assess them when they graduate in seventh grade?" Angelina angrily pounded her pillow.

This whimsical idea received enthusiastic approval from all the girls in the dorm who were suffering from the pressure of OWL.

Lying in their beds, everyone launched into a deep critique and condemnation of the OWL exam and the Ministry of Magic, which had established this damned exam system.

However, as the conversation went on, the girls, whose attention was easily diverted, naturally shifted the topic from studying to dating.

Arya: "...Rosalie from the next dorm got together with a senior boy from Hufflepuff. They sneaked out during curfew and kissed in an empty classroom, where they were caught red-handed by the prefect on patrol."

“I’ve heard about that too. Speaking of which, there have been quite a few Gryffindor and Hufflepuff couples lately—” Angelina said in a flirtatious tone, exchanging a mischievous glance with Lyra.

"Oh—" Arya understood her two roommates' expressions and shyly covered her rapidly rising cheeks. "Okay, I mean, I did agree to go on a date with Andrew—"

"Oh—" Leila and Angelina burst into laughter.

“He’s so considerate and gentle, and he knows so much about Quidditch teams—” Arya introduced her new boyfriend with sparkling eyes.

“We have so much in common, and we enjoy talking about everything,” Arya said, then changed the subject, “For example, Andrew and I are both wondering whether Cedric will be able to win Lyra’s heart—”

"Cough cough cough—" Lyra choked on her saliva unexpectedly. "When did Cedric ever pursue me?"

This time, it was Aria and Angelina exchanging mischievous glances.

Arya: "I sensed it last time at Hogsmeade. You created opportunities for me to ride in the same carriage as Cedric, but he wasn't interested in me at all. The only things we could talk about were things related to you."

“You used Cedric as a cover to fool Wood that day, but I thought you two were actually quite a good match,” Angelina affirmed.

“Cedric and I are just friends,” Lyra explained seriously, “and I’m not really interested in gentle guys like Cedric.”

Arya: "If Cedric invites you to Hogsmeade again, will you say yes?"

Lyra suspected that Cedric's friend had sent Arya to gather information, but she had no proof.

“No,” Lyra said, “because I already have a date at Hogsmeade next time.”

At the breakfast table, Lyra sat between George and Fred, trying to block Arya and Angelina's burning gaze with the two tall, red-haired girls.

Last night, after Lyra announced the big news in the dormitory that Hogsmeade had a date, she quickly crawled into her curtains and went to sleep, leaving Arya and Angelina extremely curious and almost unable to sleep for most of the night.

When Lyra woke up early in the morning and faced her roommates' intense questioning, she revealed that her date wasn't a Gryffindor boy, barely calming her curious roommates down—or so she thought.

Angelina and Arya rolled their eyes. Hogwarts has four houses, okay? Excluding only one house is practically meaningless.

But Lyra wasn't planning on revealing her next Hogsmeade date yet. She was determined to spend more time with George and Fred lately, making them study together, just in case they didn't get their certificates at OWL.

These red-haired twins have recently become obsessed with earning Galleons, thanks to the popularity of their pranks at school.

George and Fred stuffed sandwiches into their mouths while whispering to each other about checking the product inventory, their identical faces beaming with satisfied joy.

On the other side of the table, Harry wore a troubled expression.

His two best friends had another falling out, just before they were about to make up after their last falling out.

Last night, Harry got the Firebolt back from Professor McGonagall, and the boys, in high spirits, decided to make peace with Hermione. Then Ron found bloodstained sheets and ginger cat fur in the dormitory—

Ron's mouse is gone, and the scene looks like a vicious cat eating a mouse.

Obviously, everyone thought Hermione's cat ate Ron's mouse, except for Hermione.

"There is no evidence that Crookshanks ate Spotty; the cat hair may have been there since Christmas!"

Ron was furious.

Harry also believed the cat ate the mouse, and he tried to express this view to Hermione, only to be met with a sharp retort from her—

"Stand on Ron's side, I know you will! Leave me alone, I'm busy!"

Ron and Hermione no longer sit together, whether they're eating or in class.

Harry couldn't reconcile the two, and was even at a loss for what to do about Ron's sadness—Ron was heartbroken after losing the mouse.

“Alright, Ron, haven’t you always complained that Scabbers is Percy’s secondhand goods?” Fred, rarely showing affection, tried to comfort his little brother. “Besides, it’s been sick for a while now. Maybe even without that cat, that mouse wouldn’t have been alive for long. Being eaten by the cat might be better for it—it might not even feel a bite.”

“Fred!” Ginny cried out in condemnation.

“Actually, all Banban does all day is eat and sleep, and you two don’t really interact much. You said that yourself, Ron,” George said.

Ron ignored his twin brother's irresponsible advice and even recalled how Scabbers had bitten Goyle on the train.

The twins unanimously agreed that this was probably the most glorious moment in the mouse's life, and at the same time, they finally felt a little sympathy for their little brother's miserable appearance.

Fred: "Come on, Ron, make up with Hermione, stop lamenting, and buy another mouse!"

Lyra didn't comfort Ron; she felt someone should also be on Hermione's side, but what Hermione said to Harry wasn't wrong either—

Hermione is indeed too busy. She's either in class or on her way to class every day, and spends the rest of her time hiding in a corner doing her homework.

However, Lyra believes that the opportunity for Hermione and Ron to reconcile will soon come—

The Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw is about to begin. With the Firebolt, the Gryffindor team has no doubt of getting the Golden Snitch, and the party celebrating Gryffindor's victory is undoubtedly the best place for reconciliation.
