Chapter 9 The Sun Will Shine Tomorrow
Chapter 9 The Sun Will Shine Tomorrow
Using the propulsion of the flames, Su Jue weaved through the alleys, and after a few minutes, he finally saw clearly the back of the person he was chasing.
"Shuangyu." Just as Su Jue was about to step forward to arrest her, a familiar voice rang out.
Su Jue's eyes widened in disbelief. His gaze remained fixed on the person slowly turning around in front of him until the face completely overlapped with the image of the woman in the fire scene in his memory.
"Zhang Fuyin!" The flames in Su Jue's hand instantly rose, turning from red to blue in a moment, and finally becoming a cluster of white flames.
The moment the flames turned white, the source energy within his body plummeted at an alarming rate.
On the rooftop of a tall building not far away, a man wearing a black robe with pockets looked at the furious Su Jue in the alley and let out a cold laugh.
But he soon realized something was wrong. In the alley, countless mirrors began to appear and spread outwards from Su Jue's center. By the time he wanted to turn around and leave, it was too late.
There was also a mirror in front of him, and Su Jue stood in it, coldly watching him.
"Why did you cause trouble for Fang Qi? And how did you know about my parents?" Su Jue slowly walked out of the mirror, the white flames on her hands distorting the space around her.
"I don't know, it's all God's arrangement." Zhang Fuyin gasped for breath, his whole body sweating profusely.
Zhang Fuyin quickly dodged; he had just gotten close to the flames and his whole body was burned bright red.
"Everything...is...all thanks to the Lord!" Several spells shattered, Zhang Fuyin threw away his robe, and his body began to rot. Soon, he looked no different from the dead.
"Die!" Zhang Fuyin instantly jumped in front of Su Jue. As his appearance changed, his physical attributes also became the same as those of a dead person.
"As long as he can still talk, that's fine." Su Jue let Zhang Fuyin pierce his left shoulder with his claws, thus restricting Zhang Fuyin's movements, and easily tore off Zhang Fuyin's left hand with the heat from the assistant.
Zhang Fuyin let out a miserable scream, immediately pulled out his right hand, and stepped back. He shouted at Su Jue, "Madman!"
"Why did you cause trouble for Fang Qi? How did you know about my parents?" Su Jue asked the exact same question again, like a broken record.
"I told you! It was all the Lord's arrangement!" Zhang Fuyin's eyes seemed to shine when he spoke of this so-called Lord.
Zhang Fuyin was wondering why Su Jue didn't ask another question when he noticed a red mark on his leg. With a snap of the fingers of the young man in front of him, flames burst into flames on his leg.
"Everything is for the Lord, everything is for... the 'New World'! Hahahaha!" Zhang Fuyin spread his arms wide, seemingly no longer caring how Su Jue treated him: "The end of the old world, the beginning of the new world, I wish..."
But halfway through his sentence, he suddenly vanished into thin air.
"Damn it!" Su Jue thought he had used some strange technique to escape, and reluctantly threw the flames aside, where they continued to burn on the ground.
He sat down on the ground, looking at the eye in the sky that was always staring at him.
Zhang Fuyin ran away, uttering some mystical words, and mentioning a "new world"—could it be some kind of religion? And where did he get that corpse that looks so much like my mother, dressed in black? Could it be related to that person?
Thinking it over, Su Jue jumped off the building. Just as he was about to hit the ground, a ball of flame caught him.
He slowly walked toward the corpse lying on the ground.
……
"So boring... Hey, Fang Qi... right? Do you know why these guys are looking for you?" Xu Menghe found her phone a bit boring, so she put it down and turned to chat with Fang Qi.
She was met with silence.
"I did help you recover, did you think I was mute?" Xu Menghe picked up her phone again, intending to ignore the melancholy boy. She opened her chat with Su Jue and planned to vent her frustrations.
She had only typed one word when a raindrop hit her keyboard.
"Huh? It's raining! Is there no limit to how big his lousy barrier is?" Xu Menghe quickly typed a message to urge Su Jue.
"Have you dealt with Zhang Fuyin yet? Come back quickly!" She typed quickly, but just as she was about to send it, she suddenly felt dizzy.
To her surprise, the sudden dizziness only lasted a few seconds.
"Strange..." Xu Yafang clicked send again and sent the message.
……
Su Jue carefully placed her hand on the corpse's face: "The imitation technique is quite impressive, exactly like Mom's..."
Su Jue felt water slowly sliding down his cheeks and finally falling to the ground.
It's raining.
Su Jue set the corpse on fire. The flames, washed by the rain, gradually blurred the incredibly familiar face from his memory until it disappeared completely.
Only then did he pick up his phone and see the message Xu Menghe had just sent.
"Are you done yet? Come back quickly!"
Su Jue put away her phone and returned the way she came, arriving back at the same spot before the rain intensified.
"Zhang Fuyin seems to have escaped; we didn't manage to take him down," Su Jue explained to them.
"Hurry, hurry, remove this barrier, I'm getting soaked!" Xu Menghe kept urging.
Su Jue raised her hand and released the barrier that had been binding the two of them.
Xu Menghe quickly ran to a place sheltered by the eaves, with Su Jue and Fang Qi following behind.
Only when the two approached did Xu Menghe take a closer look at Su Jue. There were two tear tracks on his face. She teased, "You cried?"
"No, it's just rain." Su Jue subconsciously wiped the water off her face.
"Alright, if you didn't cry, you didn't cry!" Xu Menghe waved her hand with a smile.
"Do you know about the New World? Zhang Fuyin mumbled something about it and then disappeared." Su Jue recalled that Zhang Fuyin had mentioned the New World twice in his words.
"New World? Never heard of it... It doesn't sound like a warlock organization, more like a religion." Xu Menghe took out her phone, searched for a while, and then showed it to Su Jue: "Look, it shows no search results."
"Never mind, let's send Fang Qi back to the morgue first." Su Jue smoothed her brow with her fingers.
……
"I won't go. He did something bad at the morgue last time. You take care of him and I'll wait for you here." At the hospital entrance, Xu Menghe gave Su Jue a mischievous smile.
"Okay." Su Jue slowly escorted Fang Qi into the morgue, but strangely, as soon as he entered, he saw Lin Yang and Liu Xue constantly operating the computer.
"This is..." Su Jue asked.
"Don't even mention it. Xu Menghe hacked into my and Lin Yang's computers last time, and she took all the data inside," Liu Xue complained, slamming her hand on the table before resuming her research.
Su Jue gave a helpless smile, then looked at Fang Qi and said, "It will be alright, you should get some rest."
"Good luck to you two." Su Jue glanced at Liu Xue and Lin Yang, then gently closed the door, afraid of upsetting them.
Su Jue walked to the hospital entrance. Xu Menghe was sitting in the convenience store next door, holding a bottle of mineral water in her left hand and scrolling through her phone screen with her right.
"It's out? Look, the weather forecast says the sun will be out tomorrow, this rain will only last a few hours." Xu Menghe put her phone in front of Su Jue.
The video wasn't a weather forecast, but rather a muscular man playing on a short video app.
"The sun has eight-pack abs?" Su Jue looked at Xu Menghe.
"Huh?" Xu Menghe took back her phone, glanced at it, and quickly logged out: "I made a mistake, forget about it for now! Anyway, that's what happened!"
"Would you like me to treat your shoulder?" Xu Menghe pointed to Su Jue's shoulder.
"No..." Su Jue was about to refuse, but then he suddenly remembered something: he was just missing a healing technique.
So he agreed: "Thank you."
"Let's find a secluded spot," Xu Menghe said, pointing to a flowerbed not far away.
"Hey, Su Jue." Xu Menghe's movements hovered over Su Jue's injured area, and Su Jue's wounds were healing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
"What's wrong?" Su Jue asked with his eyes closed, his mind still on the new world. Zhang Fuyin was the person he knew who was closest to the accident.
"I was just about to ask, who is Zhang Fuyin?" Xu Menghe removed her hand from Su Jue's shoulder, and the spell broke down. The treatment was over, and the wound on Su Jue's shoulder was already showing signs of healing.
Su Jue was stunned. He turned to look at Xu Menghe and asked, "What?"
"What's wrong? You've been mentioning this person ever since you got back. Is it the name of the person you were chasing earlier?" Xu Menghe's words were like a needle piercing Su Jue's brain.
"You told me, Zhang Fuyin, that the technique is manipulating corpses." Su Jue frowned.
"No, I don't know it. You can search it if you don't believe me." Xu Menghe also looked puzzled and held her phone in front of Su Jue.
On her phone, Su Jue typed "Zhang Fuyin" into the search bar at the top of the folder, and several large characters appeared below—
