The outside world is even more shocking than what you see from upstairs.
The gale-force winds, accompanied by torrential rain, lashed everything like countless whips.
Visibility was extremely low; beyond ten meters, everything became a blur.
The green belt outside the apartment has completely disappeared, turning into a swamp.
The murky water flowed rapidly, and its depth was generally greater than an adult's waist.
Car wreckage, furniture fragments, and even swollen, white animal carcasses floated on the water.
The buildings on both sides looked like huge tombstones submerged in mud and water, leaning precariously. Many low-rise shops on the ground floor of the residential area were mostly submerged.
Stepping out of the apartment building.
Every step was extremely difficult.
The water rushed against my body, and beneath my feet were slippery mud and unidentified obstacles.
The cold rain kept seeping in through the gaps in the raincoat, taking away body heat.
"Splash splash splash~ Splash splash splash~"
"Woo~"
All I could hear was the howling wind, the roar of the rain, and the rushing sound of the water.
"Brother Minghu, how did you manage to get here in such a harsh environment?"
The outside environment was truly appalling. Han Ning couldn't fathom how the other people managed to come from other apartment buildings and return so easily.
“I don’t know about the others, but I moved into this building seven or eight days ago. At that time, I had just awakened my abilities, and Lao Liu found me.”
Lu Minghu turned his head and shouted loudly at Han Ning.
"I'm all alone, so I just moved here."
"So that's how it is." Han Ning suddenly realized.
"Watch out for floating debris on the right!" Zhou Wan's voice suddenly rang out.
Following the sound, everyone looked and saw a white object resembling a refrigerator being swept up by the current and swirling towards a building next door on the murky water to their right.
"Keep to the left! Stay close to the wall!" Liu Feng immediately gave the order.
The group moved with difficulty to the left, hugging the exterior wall of a relatively intact apartment building next door.
The cold walls offered some support, but also increased the risk of being hit by falling objects.
Just as they dodged the floating debris, Zhou Wan's voice rang out again, this time with a noticeable hint of urgency:
"The water flow is abnormal at the two o'clock position."
"No, it's a living thing!"
The voice just fell.
Beneath the murky water, two blurry black figures were breaking through the current, rapidly approaching them like torpedoes.
Chapter 13 Fierce
"They are alligator lizards, one large and one small."
Zhou Wan's tone was urgent.
"The larger ones are nearly three meters long, and the smaller ones are about 1.5 meters long! They've spotted us."
"Damn it!"
Liu Feng cursed and quickly surveyed his surroundings.
"Don't fight them in the water. Lure them ashore and go to the front. I remember there's a restaurant at the entrance of the community. Go to the second floor."
He pointed to a row of shops outside the residential area, a dozen meters to his right.
One-third of the first floor is already submerged.
"Zhou Wan and Minghu go first, the three of us will cover the rear, quick!" Liu Feng decisively ordered.
The team sped up instantly, and the five people struggled forward in waist-deep water.
Chen Yan roared, his massive body blocking the back of the line, baseball bat strapped to his back, his hands gripping the fire axe tightly, like a solid dam.
The dark shadow underwater had clearly noticed that its prey was speeding up its escape, and its speed suddenly increased.
Two distinct V-shaped ripples spread across the murky water.
"Han Ning!" Liu Feng shouted.
"Understood." Han Ning's expression was serious as he faced the direction from which the attack was coming and pressed his hands forward in a gesture.
In an instant, ten dark green vines covered with sharp thorns shot out from the murky water like hunting venomous snakes.
Puff puff!
The sound of vines breaking through the water rang out continuously.
Most of the vines were targeting the smaller, faster crocodile lizard.
Seven or eight vines precisely wrapped around its limbs, neck, and long tail.
"Hiss!"
The baby crocodile lizard was suddenly frozen in place by the vines, and then began to struggle frantically.
The vines were stretched taut, making a teeth-grinding creaking sound, and water splashed everywhere.
Han Ning's face twitched involuntarily.
He could clearly feel the immense force emanating from the vines, constantly pulling at his arm.
Although this little crocodile lizard is small, that's relative to the one behind it. Overall, it's a size larger than the juvenile crocodile lizard that Han Ning encountered ten days ago.
The intermediate-level vine technique is far more resilient than the beginner-level one, but it still struggles against the brute force of this monster.
The giant crocodile lizard, with its powerful size and strength, smashed through two or three vines blocking its path. Its speed only decreased slightly, and it still opened its blood-red maw full of sharp teeth, bringing a foul stench, and rushed straight at Chen Yan, who was at the rear.
"Monster, get the hell out of my way!"
Chen Yan roared like thunder, his muscles bulging and his skin faintly glowing with a rock-like grayish-white sheen.
Instead of dodging, he charged forward at the monitor lizard, wielding his sharp fire axe and swinging it with all his might at the lizard's menacing head that was poking out of the water!
boom! ! !
A deep, muffled thud, like two trucks colliding, followed by a splash of water.
Chen Yan grunted, the huge recoil force sending him staggering back three steps before he fell backward into the knee-deep floodwaters. The fire axe in his hand almost slipped from his grasp, and his hand was split open, bleeding profusely.
The giant crocodile lizard was also hit hard on the head by this powerful blow, and its forward momentum was abruptly stopped.
"Now's the time! Get upstairs!" Liu Feng shouted, seizing the precious moment.
Lu Minghu, carrying his buzzing chainsaw, and Zhou Wan had already rushed to the restaurant entrance.
The staircase leading to the second floor is still above the water.
Lu Minghu leaped up like a nimble cat, with Zhou Wan close behind.
"Han Ning, help Old Chen evacuate. I'll cover the rear."
Liu Feng shouted at Han Ning, his gaze sharpening as he locked onto the small crocodile lizard that Han Ning had temporarily trapped, which was still struggling frantically.
Several pieces of concrete and half a rusty steel pipe, scattered in the murky water, suddenly floated up from the water, as if controlled by an invisible giant hand, and smashed into the head and back of the little crocodile lizard with a whistling sound!
Bang bang bang!
A dull thud sounded as a heavy object struck the scales.
Although it did not cause serious injury, the sudden blow and impact caused the baby crocodile lizard to feel pain, its body tilted, and its struggling was interrupted, temporarily ignoring the pursuit.
Han Ning immediately waved his right hand, leaving only two vines to continue interfering with the baby crocodile lizard.
The remaining vines turned and bound the fallen Chen Yan, pulling him backward and quickly creating distance between him and the giant crocodile lizard.
The four of them rushed up to the second floor as fast as they could.
The staircase leads to a narrow corridor with several private rooms and a large hall on either side.
The hall was in complete disarray, with tables and chairs overturned and most of the windows broken, letting in wind and rain.
"Block the stairwell!" Liu Feng's slightly panting voice rang out from below as he rushed up using all four limbs in a very disheveled manner.
By this time, Chen Yan had come to his senses.
"Bah bah bah!"
He spat out several mouthfuls of dirty water, using his burly body to brace himself against the top of the stairwell, with the fire axe held horizontally in front of him.
Han Ning encouraged the vines to grow again, weaving them into a simple barrier net.
Almost the instant they completed their defense, a chilling roar and the sound of violently slamming against the stairs came from downstairs.
boom! boom! boom!
The wooden staircase groaned in pain from the force of the impact, and splinters of wood fell down.
The two crocodile lizards were clearly provoked.
"The big one is coming up, get ready!"
Liu Feng's eyes were sharp as he swept his gaze across the hall. Several heavy solid wood chairs trembled slightly, as if awakened by an invisible force.
Lu Minghu stood a little distance away, the buzzing of the chainsaw chain spinning at high speed sounding particularly jarring in the dilapidated hall.
He gripped the saw handle tightly, staring intently at the stairwell.
Zhou Wan stood facing the stairwell, drew back her compound bow, and a gleaming carbon fiber arrow rested steadily on the string. The bowstring was half-drawn, and the arrowhead adjusted its direction slightly with the movement of her gaze, ready to be fired at any moment.
Boom.
With a loud crash, the wooden floorboards above the stairwell, along with the vine net woven by Han Ning, were smashed to pieces by a terrifying force.
Wood chips, dust, and broken vines flew everywhere.
A colossal, hideous head covered in slippery, pale scales, accompanied by a nauseating stench, suddenly emerged from the entrance. Its ping-pong ball-sized, yellow, vertical pupils instantly locked onto Chen Yan, who was closest to it.
