Chapter 272 The Starting Point Was Good

Given that Ultron is lurking in the future, locating its location is virtually an impossible task.

Fortunately, Joey managed to find a smart person to help him with this.

"I'm sorry, I can't do that."

Just moments ago, Zhang Parker confidently claimed to have at least nine ways to deal with Ultron, but upon actually putting it into practice, he discovered that his only stubbornness was his words; he was utterly helpless against Vision's body.

"With Ultron's time travel, the continuity of spacetime has become a complete mess, making it impossible to figure out the trajectory of the time travel."

I almost blurted out the word "you're such a piece of trash." The laborer I just grabbed was really not enough, but there weren't many people left to use.

In this universe, Ant-Man and his wife were ambushed and killed by their dutiful son Ultron in the first instance. The Avengers have been almost wiped out after several battles, not to mention the X-Men. Currently, Storm may be the only mutant left alive.

The Fantastic Four are either dead or missing, and Doctor Doom is nowhere to be found. He was probably taken away by Ultron along with his robot army, leaving only a time travel platform.

A little frustrated, Joey poked at "Friday," which was still switched off. He still couldn't contact the all-powerful Doraemon or the cunning Batman, and his superpowers weren't enough to allow him to cross the river of time and smash Ultron with a single punch.

The two cobblers had no choice but to think of some other solutions.

"Yi Yi Yi Time Travel Platform!"

Standing on Doctor Doom's time-travel platform, Zhang Parker had a flash of inspiration: "Do you think we could use it to travel back in time and call for reinforcements from the other side?"

Joey's right eyelid twitched uneasily, almost immediately making him reject the idea; this behavior sounded like courting death no matter how you looked at it.

"You think the current timeline isn't chaotic enough already?!"

Although Joey wasn't an expert in this area, he was a seasoned veteran who had seen it all. The beatings he had endured along the way were mostly due to a bunch of fools who desperately wanted to change the past (excluding himself).

"Let me finish. We're just traveling back in time; we won't have any influence over it."

Super idea king Zhang Parker and Joey secretly plotted loudly in the Antarctic refuge, proposing a seemingly crazy but actually outrageous idea:

"Step one: We travel back to the past when Mr. Fantastic, Ant-Man, Iron Man, and Doctor Doom were still alive, and tell them what happened in the future."

"Step two: get them to come and help us deal with Ultron;"

"Step three: Send them back precisely after the minute they left!"

After hearing the plan, Joey was beyond words to describe just how absurd it was. Zhang Parker's words were as nonsensical as putting an elephant in a refrigerator:

"First of all, let's not discuss how to convince them that this isn't a Terminator movie."

Because the command chain of the Ultron robots has been severed, the world is temporarily free from the threat of the Terminator. With Ultron in its current state, the other heroes have been dispatched by Joey to rebuild order. Only Parker and Joey remain in the vault, so Joey doesn't hesitate to call him by his first name:

"Otto, didn't you ever consider that there might be a fourth step—that once these people know what will happen in the future, the first thing they'll do when they go back in time is try to prevent it from happening, and then, like Wolverine did, tear apart spacetime and create even more chaotic parallel universes?"

The universe is self-adaptive. In order to correct the theory and prevent the entire system from being blocked by a bug, simply and crudely traveling back to the past will not change history, but will create a new parallel future.

No matter how safe and wonderful that new future may be, it has absolutely nothing to do with the miserable universe the two of them are currently in.

Moreover, the new universe is unlikely to be safe and wonderful—for example, Tony, whom Joey knows well, lives in a universe where Ant-Man died mysteriously and the first version of Ultron was nipped in the bud.

It's true that this universe is missing Ultron, a super-killing machine, but what safe universe would encounter Galactus before the Avengers were even formed?!

"Wolverine?"

Upon hearing this, Zhang Parker frowned. His exceptional intelligence allowed him to instantly understand the meaning behind Superman's words, and a chill ran down his spine to the back of his head.

"You mean Wolverine already did it once? That all makes sense—that stupid brute!"

Going back in time to change the future is a delicate task, so why would someone like Wolverine, whose brain doesn't even have many creases, be chosen to do it?

No wonder spacetime is so chaotic; Ultron alone could hardly have caused such damage.

Even now, Zhang Parker still hasn't given up on his audacious plan:

"There's a crucial step between steps two and three that I haven't told you about. Do you remember how I took over Peter Parker's body?"

In order to prolong his life and seize everything from Spider-Man, the dying Doctor Octopus had already pushed his research into the technology of manipulating consciousness and reading memories to its absolute pinnacle:

"Step 2.5: Before letting them go back, Superman, you're in charge of knocking them out, and I'll erase their memories."

In this way, there is no risk of disrupting the continuity of spacetime—to those heroes from the past, they may have only been distracted for two seconds, and nothing happened.

"You're a madman, Otto."

Joey knew the plan was feasible, but not entirely acceptable.

Zhang Parker is no pushover; letting him freely read and write the memories of those superheroes is bound to cause trouble.

"We've lost too much already. Even if you told Nick Fury or anyone else, they would absolutely agree."

In terms of decisiveness, the no-longer-panicked Spider-Man is even more resolute than the original Spider-Man, having already begun adjusting the time machine while still talking:

"If you have a Plan B, please bring it up quickly so I can get started."

Joey was still considering whether such an approach carried moral risks.

Can they really manipulate other people's memories at will, like in the movie "Men in Black," and steal their past?

Of course, his eyes swept across the globe, and the surviving humans struggled in the wasteland. Even with superheroes stepping in to help rebuild and maintain order, it would still be a long and painful period.

Tens of thousands of Ultron robots are dormant, and it is unknown when they will restart. Ultron could threaten the safety of everyone and other universes again at any time.

"Done."

Zhang Parker stood on the teleportation platform, which was already glowing with energy: "Want to come along?"

"Let's go. Our first stop is to find Ant-Man, the creator of Ultron."

At least Joey's intentions were good, and now he has no choice but to set off.
