Chapter 19 Agent R2, The Confused Extraordinary Squad
Chapter 19 Agent R2, The Confused Extraordinary Squad
"She's still a little girl."
The hunter's tone became more subdued:
"As I said before, we are a group of fugitives."
"Without belonging, homeless, wandering from place to place, and constantly facing the pursuit of the empire."
His gaze swept into the room, his expression somewhat forlorn.
"Omega needs a home and to live a normal life."
"And these are things we cannot give you."
Lance looked at him, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
He never expected that this outwardly cold and tough soldier would have such a sensitive heart.
"It's just one more disk, of course there's no problem."
He paused, then continued:
"But are you sure Omega is willing to go with them?"
The hunter sighed softly:
"This is for her own good."
Lance glanced at the doorway and said:
"I can sense that the little girl has already formed a deep bond with you."
"This connection is not something that can be easily severed."
He looked at the hunter:
"Are you really going to make this decision for her?"
The hunter fell silent.
He lowered his head, his heart filled with struggle.
After a moment, he slowly spoke:
My request remains unchanged.
"At that time, I will let Omega choose for itself."
Lance nodded slightly and said nothing more.
The hunter let out a long breath, as if a burden had been lifted:
"Thanks."
He looked at Lance and Gugu, a hint of curiosity in his eyes:
"Don't you need to get one for yourself and the little one?"
Lance looked down at Gugu in his arms; its racial characteristics were too obvious to be hidden.
He himself was able to find an inconspicuous corner to survive by relying on the chain code.
But he couldn't abandon Gugu.
Lance shook his head helplessly:
"We don't need it either."
The hunter immediately understood what he meant:
"In that case, we do have some similarities."
......
Carter and Sue piloted the landship and boarded the R2 to arrive near the spaceport.
The streets were lined with shops, and people came and went, mostly simply dressed civilians and clone soldiers carrying blaster rifles.
High-altitude towing spacecraft occasionally swept by and landed on the spaceport's tarmac.
The entrance has multiple security checks and is heavily guarded.
In the dimly lit alley, Su raised her eyebrows slightly, looked down at R2, and asked softly:
"How do you plan to get in?"
"Beep beep!"
R2's gaze was fixed on a group of clone soldiers heading toward the spaceport entrance.
Just as their last soldier crossed the alleyway, R2 quietly slid out from the side and quickly joined the end of the line, as if it were a member of the squad.
It controlled its speed, neither too fast nor too slow.
The sentry only glanced at the squad, and even when he saw the mechanic robot following behind, he didn't investigate further, assuming it was just accompanying the squad on a mission.
R2 passed through security so easily and swaggered into the spaceport.
Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, it immediately broke away from the squad and found a data port.
An interface pops out from the abdomen, allowing for rapid intrusion into the terminal system.
In the blink of an eye, it had obtained information on all the chain code processing points in the spaceport, but it could not find the location of the blank disk and encoder.
"Drip-drip."
After retracting the interface, it arrived at a remote processing point according to the obtained map.
But at that moment, a soldier was busy inside the hut.
R2 waited patiently in the corner.
About an hour later, the soldier finally left.
"Beep beep".
It made a cheerful little sound and quickly slipped into the room.
Two electronic eyes quickly scanned the area and soon spotted the locker with the combination lock hanging above the data port.
The interface was reconnected.
About half a second later, the cabinet door opened with a soft click.
R2 spewed a flame from its tail and flew to the cabinet.
Two metal arms quickly extended, retrieving five disks and an encoder.
Close the cabinet door, lower it to the ground, and quietly leave before the soldiers return.
"Beep beep!"
R2 let out a few triumphant low chimes.
It carried the disks and encoders hidden inside its fuselage and once again swaggered away from the spaceport.
As Lance said, no one would pay attention to an ordinary robot.
......
In the small courtyard.
Omega, Jack, and Saiah stood in front of the stove.
Omega held a wooden spoon and stirred the pot continuously.
Jack is chopping vegetables.
Shaia helped put the vegetables, minced meat, and seasonings into the pot.
A moment later, a meaty aroma rose up and filled the room.
Gu Gu stared at the stove, drool unconsciously dripping from the corner of his mouth.
"Eeya!"
He ate dry rations for several days in a row, and the little blue biscuits were long gone.
The aroma immediately whetted his appetite.
Lance could endure it; he had been training on the battlefield for over a year and was already used to living a life of hardship.
A dozen minutes later, Omega brought two steaming bowls of meat porridge to him:
"Jack said this is a local specialty, you should try it."
"Thanks."
Omega left with a smile and then served porridge to the members of the Extraordinary Squad.
Lance scooped up a spoonful, blew on it, and put it in his mouth.
The next moment, his eyes lit up slightly.
It has a soft, glutinous, and smooth texture, with a rich and thick rice oil. The finely diced meat is tender and flavorful, and the dish is smooth and not greasy.
"tasty."
He quickly finished the bowl of meat porridge.
Delicious food is the best way to let people let their guard down.
As Lance felt the warmth in his stomach, his guard lessened somewhat.
He looked up at the members of the Extraordinary Squad, his tone casual yet carrying a hint of inquiry:
"Since you can forge chaincodes for the Carter family, why don't you make one for yourselves too?"
"With a new identity, wouldn't I be able to evade the Empire's capture?"
As soon as the words were spoken, the wooden spoons in the hands of the group stopped moving simultaneously.
The atmosphere then quieted down.
After a moment, the hunter's gaze swept across his three teammates' faces, and he slowly spoke:
"From birth, we were raised as warriors by the Kamino people."
"Fighting, carrying out missions, and completing dangerous operations—that's our whole life."
He gently shook his head:
"As for the rest... we haven't learned how to be an ordinary person and live a normal life."
The Clearing King slammed his fist on the table, his voice booming:
"Making me do farm work in the fields every day? That's worse than killing me."
The technician adjusted his glasses and calmly added:
"Our skills are a valuable asset in themselves."
"It would be such a waste to use it only for farming or ordinary things."
The group did not refute the statement, but in their hearts they somewhat agreed with it.
They then looked at the echo.
The hunter asked:
"And you? What are your plans?"
Echo scratched his head, looking somewhat flustered:
"I... haven't seriously thought about this question yet."
He paused, his expression hardening:
"It was the Extraordinary Squad that took me in."
"Wherever you go, I'll go."
The Clearing King raised his hand and patted him on the shoulder, laughing heartily.
"Our Extraordinary Squad only accepts members with 'defects'."
"You've been transformed into half a robot, so of course you belong to our team."
Echo moved her numb shoulders a few times:
"Even if we leave the Empire, our Squad 99 is still here."
The hunter nodded:
"That's right, that's one of the reasons why we don't need chaincode."
"If we get together, we'll be discovered very quickly."
Lance wholeheartedly agreed with this.
The faces of clones are all made from the same mold, so it's hard not to notice them.
He listened quietly, already having formed his own judgment.
These are a group of warriors who have lost their way.
They were born for war, are accustomed to war, and depend on war.
War is their everything.
Once they leave the battlefield, they become disoriented and lost.
The war between the Republic and the separatist forces has ended, but they have now defected from the Galactic Empire.
The old system has collapsed, but has yet to find a new home.
For a moment, they seemed to have lost their reason for being.
Drifting with the tide, not knowing where to go.
An idea flashed through Lance's mind.
"Perhaps I can give them some direction."
