Chapter 47 Bookstore
Chapter 47 Bookstore
"Excuse me, do you have any learning machines here?" Yang Ming asked at the counter.
"Yes, which brand do you want?" The saleswoman behind the counter was a young woman in a blue uniform with a long ponytail.
"Hmm! Little Tyrant, I guess..." Yang Ming thought for a moment. In his memory, Little Tyrant was a pretty old brand, so the quality should be pretty good.
The salesperson bent down and took out a Little Tyrant learning machine from the drawer beneath him. The machine's packaging was still intact, with an anti-counterfeiting sticker on the seal.
"Is this the only model available?"
"All the other models are sold out, and there are less than three of these models left. They cost 260 yuan in total."
"Isn't it a bit expensive? I remember learning machines sold on TV only cost a few dozen yuan."
"You're funny. This learning machine has always been priced this way. Maybe it'll be a little cheaper in other cities, but the price here has never changed. Also, don't believe TV shopping, or you'll get scammed. This is a genuine brand, with a one-year replacement guarantee and a three-year warranty." The salesperson spoke quite professionally.
"Okay, 260 it is. But I want to test it out, just in case it breaks," Yang Ming said.
"Of course..." The salesperson pulled a paper cutter directly from the counter, deftly opened the packaging, and took out the learning machine. The learning machine was pure white with smooth lines and no sharp corners. This thing is for children, so safety is the top priority.
This Little Tyrant (a popular Chinese mobile phone brand) looks pretty good overall; at least the workmanship is quite nice.
The salesperson tested the machine skillfully, using all its functions. It ran very smoothly. Yang Ming then handed the salesperson three old men's bills.
The salesperson issued an invoice, gave change, repackaged the learning machine, and then took it to be demagnetized. This thing will have to wait a while.
"Hey, you're Yang Ming, right?"
While waiting, Yang Ming heard a voice behind him. He turned around and saw a pretty girl with shoulder-length short hair, an apple-shaped face, and big, bright eyes. She was wearing a T-shirt and jeans and was holding a book called "100,000 Whys".
"Who are you?" Yang Ming had no recollection of this girl.
"My name is Zhang Yue, I'm from the University of Science and Technology, and I'm in the same year as you. My best friend in the dorm is Liu Lili, remember me?" the girl said.
Yang Ming immediately remembered Liu Lili. Back in college, he had actually pursued her. Of course, Yang Ming himself wasn't proactive; it was his roommates who, seeing he was still single, enthusiastically tried to set him up, writing him love letters and organizing social events. However, Liu Lili was quite fashionable and didn't even look at the unfashionable Yang Ming, so the two of them never got together (of course they never did). Yang Ming knew there was no chance for them, so he wasn't enthusiastic from the start. He mentioned it to his friends a few times, but they were like madmen, determined to take his virginity, leaving Yang Ming helpless.
"Oh, it's you. I remember now, you even helped us matchmake back then," Yang Ming said with a smile.
"Hmph, you've even bought a learning machine? How old is your child?" Zhang Yue asked with a smile.
"You don't even have kids yet, but you've already bought children's books..." Yang Ming pointed to "100,000 Whys" in Zhang Yue's hand.
"This is the adult version, okay?" Zhang Yue was speechless. She didn't even have a boyfriend.
"I'm sorry..." Yang Ming smiled.
"Do you have a girlfriend?" Zhang Yue asked, leaning over the counter and handing the book to the sales clerk.
"I've got it, we'll get married on October 1st," Yang Ming said.
"Oh, congratulations! Don't forget to send me an invitation. I put in a lot of effort for you back then. Even though it didn't work out, I still put in a lot of effort..." Zhang Yue smiled sweetly at Yang Ming.
"Okay! But how do I contact you?"
"I work at the municipal government. If you tell the security guards you're Zhang Yue, they'll know you," Zhang Yue said.
"Okay!" Yang Ming nodded. At this time, the learning machine had been successfully demagnetized. The salesperson put the learning machine into a plastic bag and handed it to Yang Ming.
Yang Ming, carrying the learning machine, greeted Zhang Yue and went out.
"Getting married on October 1st? That's fast enough? No, I have to have a serious talk with Lily. Maybe she still has a chance. Lily is too foolish. It would be so much better if she married Yang Ming, that honest and simple guy. At home, she would be the queen, able to bully him however she wanted, with whips and candles..." Zhang Yue muttered softly, but the saleswoman who happened to hear her speech shivered. Her eyes changed as she looked at Zhang Yue. This girl was too powerful.
As soon as Yang Ming left the Xinhua Bookstore, he frowned. Luckily, he had run into Zhang Yue today, otherwise he would have completely forgotten about sending out invitations. None of his buddies were easy to deal with. If they found out that he hadn't invited them to his wedding, they might just storm over to his house and give him a good talking-to. He knew those three guys well enough to know what kind of people they were.
Yang Ming made up his mind to go back and start arranging the invitations. He would never give those three a reason to punish him. However, maybe his parents were thinking about it. Perhaps they had already sent out the invitations and he would call to ask.
"Mom, have you sent out the invitations for my wedding with Qingqing?"
"It's been sent. All our relatives and friends have received it. Why did you suddenly think of this?" Zhang Shufang's voice came over.
"I was just asking if anyone was missing, like my college classmates?"
"How could you forget? Thirteen, right? They've all been given away."
"That's good..." Yang Ming breathed a sigh of relief. His brothers were too ruthless. When they got excited, they turned into monkeys. They were really stealing peaches! Although he himself had turned into a monkey sometimes.
After hanging up the phone, Yang Ming returned to his car, and the truck started moving, heading towards the beautiful residential area.
"Mom and Dad, which house would you like to live in?" The moving company people returned first, but they didn't move any belongings into the new house. Wei Qingqing was leading her parents around the two houses.
"We're fine with either place; you two can choose first." Xue Hua was very satisfied with both houses.
"You guys can choose. Yang Ming and I are fine with staying anywhere," Wei Qingqing said.
"Where are your in-laws? Will they live with you from now on?" Wei Jianguo asked, walking around the hallway with his hands behind his back.
"Yes, it'll be easier for us to take care of each other since we'll all be living close by..." Wei Qingqing said, but Sun Fangfang, who was standing next to her, just scoffed. You guys take care of them? I think it'll be left to me and Zhang Yang to take care of them!
"What do your in-laws mean? Which set do they prefer?" Wei Jianguo asked.
"They haven't been here yet."
"Impossible! Can't we choose these two houses first?" Wei Jianguo's face darkened instantly. "Shouldn't you also ask your in-laws' opinion?"
"Qingqing, what you did was wrong," Xue Hua scolded her daughter.
"..." Yang Ming and Wei Qingqing really hadn't considered this aspect. They hadn't paid attention to these little details. However, sometimes bad things happen because of these small details that people don't notice.
"Uncle and Aunt, it's not that serious. It's just a matter of personal preference. I also considered this issue of fairness when I was decorating. I was just afraid that you in-laws would have a grudge over such a small matter. So, the decoration costs for both houses are exactly the same, absolutely fair and impartial," Sun Fangfang quickly said.
"Look how thoughtful Fangfang is!" Wei Jianguo glared at his daughter. "When Yang Ming comes back, let him choose..."
Yang Ming's parents definitely want their son and daughter-in-law to live together. They'll let Yang Ming choose the house. Even if the in-laws aren't satisfied with the house, they won't be able to find fault with it, since it was their son who chose it.
"What are you picking and choosing? Moving to a new house is a happy occasion, but I feel like something's off." Yang Ming said as he stepped out of the elevator.
"Your parents have never been here before. My parents said they'd let you choose a house first," Wei Qingqing said, pouting.
"Should I choose? Or you can choose. These two houses are the same." Yang Ming immediately sensed that his impression of his father-in-law had changed. He was quite shrewd!
"Living in the city means you have to be a bit more stylish, so let's choose this 701 apartment," Wei Qingqing said with an appreciative look, smiling.
"You little devil..." Xue Hua chuckled and cursed. To be honest, Wei Jianguo and Xue Hua were both teachers and intellectuals. They preferred houses in a classical style and had already decided on 703.
