Chapter 3 A Warm Night
Chapter 3 A Warm Night
Nighttime, in a small villa outside the city.
Hanlu and the other two looked at the brightly lit room with surprise, while Matt walked curiously towards the hall, and also "saw" the appalling kitchen next to it.
Listening to the dripping water and smelling the strong odor of grease, Matt asked with some certainty, "None of you can cook, right?"
The girls chuckled and laughed.
After all, they had eaten food they made themselves, but how to put it, apart from boiled and fried food, they could only eat canned food most of the time.
This meant that even though they had stored a lot of vegetables, meat and flour in hidden underground freezers, they could only survive on canned food.
"Never mind, I'll do it."
For a period of time, they had been eating food that was directly produced by the Cold Dew, but that did not mean that Matt's cooking skills had deteriorated.
After all, as a single man, he must know how to cook.
As for John, Katie patted Hanlu, who was sitting on the sofa, with some curiosity, and pointed to the strange guy facing the window: "Does your friend have a particular fondness for standing by the window?"
Upon hearing this, several veins popped out on John's brow.
Why have I been encountering so many clueless people lately?
It's alright during the Cold Dew season, at least there's a living radar by your side.
But these little girls, living in the middle of nowhere with the lights on at night, seemed to be afraid that others wouldn't come looking for trouble for them.
He admitted that these girls each had their own abilities, but they were all too inexperienced.
"This is John Walker, our team leader," Hanlu introduced generously. "He's the most experienced among us; he was a special forces captain and earned three Medals of Honor on the battlefield."
Hanlu very politely gave up the position of team leader, which made John Walker puff out his chest even more.
That's not entirely wrong; it was under his leadership that they managed to survive until now.
Hanlu isn't the kind of person who insists on standing out. Trying to take power when you lack the ability will only cause trouble. She's unworthy of her position.
When talking about his honors, he proudly turned around and sat down on the sofa with a flourish.
"Didn't you ever consider that having the lights on at night makes you an easy target for a sneak attack?"
The girls who had been lectured looked at each other, and finally Katie raised her hand: "Um..."
Most zombies congregate in cities and don't usually venture out unnoticed.
Moreover, you are the only living people we have seen during this period of time.
"But that's also dangerous; you're too complacent," John Walker emphasized. "If it weren't for us today, you might already be taken care of by that Hawkeye."
"Actually, that's not how it is," Kamala said somewhat nonchalantly. "We recognize Hawkeye too. We run into him every time we go into the city to look for something, and we always avoid him."
Upon hearing this, John Walker visibly twitched in surprise.
He glanced at Hanlu, who was watching the spectacle from the side, and found that this young man from the East was enjoying the show as if he were listening to a story.
"You mean you frequently went to the city to find supplies, and you even escaped from that Hawkeye's men, right?"
The three girls nodded in unison.
John Walker clutched his head in discomfort: "Then why don't you try to kill him?"
"He's an Avenger, can we win?"
Kamala's words were tinged with lingering fear.
But John Walker recalled seeing several little girls using their abilities to clear obstacles on his way back, and felt that heaven was blind.
Aside from Katie, who at least had basic combat skills, the other two, who were clearly capable of chasing and fighting the enemy, ended up being chased by Hawkeye instead.
"Alright, alright," Hanlu said with a smile as she pushed John Walker, who possessed the power of the "Ox Talisman," up to the bedroom assigned to him on the second floor.
"They haven't received any systematic professional training. Our great captain should rest first. He still needs to lead us out of the encirclement tomorrow."
Yes, that's the charm of a detached villa; six people can easily fit in.
"Alright, let's talk now," Hanlu said. "My name is Hanlu, and the one cooking is Matt. He used to be a lawyer, and of course, he also has another name: Daredevil."
We saw the out-of-control plane in the city earlier, so we rushed over and unexpectedly ran into you.
The introduction is very simple, after all, in the post-apocalyptic world, there's really nothing "unique" to talk about.
But he soon discovered that this unremarkable introduction had attracted the attention of several girls, especially Katie.
"Excuse me, what are your abilities? And what happened with Hawkeye? Were you the one who did it?"
"Sort of, but not entirely." Hanlu tossed the stone in her hand, which had lifelike rooster markings on it!
"This is a special magical artifact from East Asia that allows the user to possess spiritual power and control objects."
He said half-jokingly that he didn't intend to casually reveal his abilities to anyone—in fact, even he himself wasn't quite sure.
At first, he thought his ability was to "modify reality," but he later discovered that the so-called "modification" was just a side effect.
He can create strange and wonderful things, such as the talismans and food in his hands, but creating them directly will cause great exhaustion to himself, and his spirit, soul and body may be exhausted to the limit.
But a chance encounter led him to discover that if he could find a highly trusted medium as the basis for fusion when using his power, the negative effects would be greatly reduced, and the quality of the creation could be improved.
For example, he can transform a piece of banana peel that has been eaten, crushed, and crumpled into a whole banana.
Or you could simply conjure it up.
The difference is that the former requires almost no effort from him.
However, the latter would make him feel uncomfortable in a certain way, not from a physical illness, but from something more mysterious, but still within an acceptable range.
But precisely because of this, he instantly became a core member of the team after joining.
Without him, even eating and drinking would be a problem.
Of course, the benefits of Cold Dew don't stop there.
Conjuring ordinary objects was easy for him, but what truly benefited him was "fantasy creation"!
He can conjure up things from movies or TV shows he's seen or things from his imagination, but the prerequisite is that creating high-level items directly would exhaust him to death; however, if there is a medium, it would be much simpler.
For example, using two solid stones, plus the two unlucky Obsidian idiots, he created the "chicken" and "ox" talismans. Because the compatibility between the two was extremely high, he did not feel much consumption.
However, he had a feeling that the more extraordinary items he created and the wider their scope, the higher the upper limit of his own abilities would be, somewhat like the accumulation of "proficiency".
So far, John Walker's trust and Matt's tireless efforts and cooperation have deeply moved him.
He trusted his two companions, but he needed more time with the three girls.
However, the future may be a possibility.
Hanlu smiled and demonstrated her mental power, instantly sweeping away the dust left in the hall, and even cleaning up the pile of trash that the girls had stuffed under the sofa.
Faced with the girls' embarrassed smiles, Hanlu generously helped them with a thorough cleaning.
With the cleaning finished, Matt's dinner was ready.
But when he served the food, he looked at the three girls huddled together with a hint of helplessness.
Hanlu smiled and went upstairs to call John Walker down to have dinner together.
Once everyone was seated together, this rare and heartwarming dinner in the apocalypse finally began.
"Cheers!"×6
