Chapter 26 Fire
Chapter 26 Fire
"Something's up?"
Zhou Fengchen paused for a moment, then pointed the pen upwards and the tip downwards, before using his finger to issue a command, "Reporting to the Heavenly Court, I hereby command divine power to enhance this power, swiftly as the law commands!"
After finishing, he folded the talismans neatly, stuffed them into his pocket, and ran to the balcony. "What's wrong?"
"Look!" Wang Min pulled him and pointed downstairs.
The night was dark. Downstairs, a limping figure leaned on a cane, carrying a plastic bag, and staggered towards the back of the building.
"It's that old lady on the first floor. What's she up to so late at night?" Wang Min asked curiously.
"Let's go take a look," Zhou Fengchen called out, opening the door first.
The two went downstairs, and the old lady had already reached one side of the building.
Zhou Fengchen gave a wink, and the two of them tiptoed and quietly followed into the night. As they drew closer, they could hear the old woman muttering, "Huan'er, your mother received your message in a dream. Your mother gave you her own blood to drink. Please, don't hurt anyone anymore, I'm begging you..."
Zhou Fengchen and Wang Min exchanged a glance. Huan'er? Stop hurting people!
Behind the building was a patch of weeds, at the end of which stood a dark, abandoned building. The old woman walked along the edge of the weeds, muttering to herself as she stumbled towards the building.
Zhou Fengchen pulled Wang Min aside and whispered, "Let's wait a bit and let the old lady go first."
The old lady walked for more than ten minutes before reaching the abandoned building. After hesitating for a while, she went up to one of the apartment floors.
"Let's go!" Zhou Fengchen called out and ran over with Wang Min.
When they arrived at the abandoned building, they saw that it was a three-story building with peeling and mottled walls. The doors and windows were covered with weeds and cobwebs, and it looked like it had been abandoned for a long time. The windows on the second and third floors of the floor the old lady had gone up to were black and had burn marks, as if a fire had occurred there before.
Just then, the old woman's trembling voice came from the third-floor window, "Huan'er! What are you doing? You won't even spare your own mother? Ugh—"
"No! You beast! How dare you?!"
Zhou Fengchen was taken aback. Using his gecko-climbing skills, he slid up the wall to the third floor, leaving Wang Min downstairs dumbfounded.
Jumping through the window, I saw the empty room. The old woman was flying through the air, her hands covering her neck, her legs kicking wildly, as if something was choking her.
"You beast! Stop!"
Zhou Fengchen looked at the old lady, pushed off with his feet, and leaped up. While still in mid-air, he formed a hand seal with his right hand and forcefully unleashed: "Xuan Qi, Tongming Finger, Yin Yang Strangulation! Urgent!"
boom!
"ah--"
Suddenly, a blurry figure appeared above the old woman, screamed, and rushed out the window with a strong smell of blood. The old woman fell to the ground, still clutching a blood-soaked empty plastic bag in her hand.
Zhou Fengchen had no choice but to abandon the figure, catch the old lady, and anxiously asked, "Auntie! Are you alright?"
"Ah...ah..."
The old woman called out twice in a daze, but her breathing became uneven and she lost her voice.
Just then, Wang Min ran in from outside and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Watch the old lady, I'm going after that beast!"
Zhou Fengchen handed the old lady over to Wang Min, gave a shout, and jumped out of the third-floor window.
A wind picked up outside, and it was pitch black all around. The wild grass trembled incessantly, and the figure disappeared.
Although it was just a casual glance, Zhou Fengchen was certain that it was the female ghost. He took out a talisman from his pocket and folded it into a "spirit-seeking paper crane" on the spot.
With a chant and a release, the paper crane flew crookedly into the middle of the grass.
"it works?"
Zhou Fengchen's eyes lit up, and he followed.
This patch of overgrown weeds must have been the community's garden or greenbelt back then. It had been abandoned for a long time and was overgrown with weeds. It was difficult to walk in, but Zhou Fengchen wasn't in a hurry. He walked through the weeds while keeping an eye on his surroundings to prevent the evil spirit from escaping again.
After walking for a while, a pond suddenly appeared ahead, surrounded by vines. It looked like it used to be a fishpond. When the paper crane arrived here, it started circling around.
Zhou Fengchen caught the paper crane and was about to go to the pond to take a look when the grass next to him swayed and suddenly a person jumped out with a knife in his hand and stabbed at him.
Zhou Fengchen quickly dodged to the side, reached out and slapped the man's wrist, then kicked him across the chest.
The knife fell into the grass, and the man groaned as he flew backward.
Zhou Fengchen found it strange. This person didn't seem like a ghost; his movements were soft and gentle, as if he were just playing around. He parted the grass to take a look and was stunned for a moment.
Judging from the outline, it was the little girl from the first floor who had been kicked in the chest and was groaning.
He stepped forward, grabbed the girl by the neck, and patted her back twice. The girl caught her breath and reached out to scratch him: "Don't even think about hurting my aunt!"
"Your aunt?"
Zhou Fengchen held her small hand and thought for a moment, "I understand, this female ghost is your own aunt, no wonder you know so much."
"Auntie, run!"
Seeing that she couldn't stop Zhou Fengchen, the little girl shouted at the pool, "This guy will kill you!"
As if in response to the little girl's shout, ripples rose from the surface of the pool.
Zhou Fengchen sneered, grabbed the little girl by the neck, and flung her three or four meters away. Then, he took out twelve talismans from his robes, silently chanted an incantation, and flung them through the air: "Xuan Shisan, Twelve Star Evil-Suppressing Talisman Array! Activate!"
Whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh...
The twelve talismans immediately flew away and stuck to the weeds around the pool, instantly dispelling the ripples on the water's surface.
Zhou Fengchen breathed a sigh of relief, turned around and walked to the little girl who was about to get up. Looking at her seriously, he said, "No matter how pitiful your aunt was when she was alive, or how good she was to you, she is now a ghost, a monster devoid of humanity. She even tried to kill your grandmother just now."
The little girl pouted and burst into tears.
"Don't hit my granddaughter!"
Just then, the old lady's voice came from downstairs, and Wang Min ran over to protect her.
Upon arriving at the scene, the grandmother and grandson embraced and wept uncontrollably.
Zhou Fengchen felt incredibly embarrassed. He rubbed his nose and said to Wang Min, "Finding this ghost was much easier than I thought."
Wang Min nodded, looking at the grandmother and granddaughter, and said, "The old lady told me that this female ghost is her daughter. Alas! How pitiful."
Zhou Fengchen shook his head, unsure of what to say.
After the grandmother and granddaughter finished crying, Wang Min comforted them for a while, and they calmed down. The little girl looked at Zhou Fengchen and said, "Your room is haunted, and many guests have been scared away. We know you're very powerful because you weren't scared away. Are you really going to capture my aunt?"
Zhou Fengchen said seriously, "It's not arresting, it's killing."
"Does it have to be done?" The little girl pouted, about to cry again.
Zhou Fengchen said, "That depends on whether she has anything forgivable about her, and how she died."
The grandfather and grandson exchanged a glance and then spoke, one after the other.
The old lady had a son and a daughter. Her son and daughter-in-law died in a car accident years ago, and her husband died shortly after. Her daughter, Han Huan, got married and also lived in this community.
The old lady lives in the building in front with her granddaughter, while Han Huan and her husband live in the building behind, so they can often look after each other.
Several years ago, Han Huan was assaulted by a thug in the community garden after finishing her night shift. The incident caused quite a stir in the neighborhood, and her husband, unable to bear the scorn of others, divorced her.
After the divorce, Han Huan became depressed. One night, he set fire to the house and drowned himself in the fish pond. His body was not discovered until the next day.
