Chapter 8 A Completely Unsuitable Wand
Chapter 8 A Completely Unsuitable Wand
Hermione sat there blankly, wondering why Celeste had suddenly become angry.
She thought about what she had just said again and felt there was nothing wrong with it.
When she first met Professor McGonagall, she called herself a wizard, and the employees of the herbalist shop in Diagon Alley were apothecaries... Following this logic, it would be reasonable to call wand makers wand makers.
Seeing Xilun's serious expression, she nodded and said, "Okay, no problem."
She's just a bit stubborn and self-righteous, but she's not completely devoid of emotional intelligence; though not much, she still has some.
If the other person doesn't like it, then just don't say it. Besides, it's just a matter of changing the way you address them; it's that simple.
"So, you're also a wand maker?" Hermione asked again.
"I'd say half of it."
Seeing that the other person was so cooperative, Xilun didn't mind chatting with her a little longer. The main reason was that the train was too shaky, and it was very uncomfortable to read while being jostled around.
Even Tom, who is usually not picky about his surroundings, couldn't stand it. He crawled out from between the two suitcases and slumped onto the table, feeling dizzy.
Siren picked it up, stroked its fur, and continued, "Strictly speaking, I am currently an apprentice. Only after I officially sell ten wands can I change my title to wand maker."
"So how many have you sold so far?" Hermione asked, but her eyes were fixed on the cat in Celen's arms.
It wasn't that she liked it; the main reason was that she hadn't expected Xilun's pet to be just an ordinary mixed-breed cat.
Anyway, she rarely sees anyone keeping this kind of stray cat; most people prefer the more beautiful purebred cats.
The Celen family makes wands, so they must be quite wealthy.
Personal preference?
Of course, she couldn't possibly ask those questions; that would be incredibly impolite.
"If it's officially for sale, one will do." Xilen, unaware of what she was thinking, scratched Tom's chin and said casually.
"Oh, that's not much," Hermione blurted out.
"Hmm?" Xiren stared at the person in front of her, momentarily wondering if she was smart or stupid. "Have you ever thought that I'm only eleven years old?"
At eleven years old, without even attending magic school, she was able to successfully create and sell a complete wand. Didn't she know how valuable those words were?
...Okay, it seems she really doesn't know.
Seeing Hermione's blank look, Xiren rubbed his forehead.
I almost forgot, Hermione's parents are both Muggles and had never been exposed to the magical world before, so it's normal that they don't understand.
As for Neville next to him... he doesn't count, let's skip him.
Really... Merlin's pants, he rarely tries to pretend, and he still couldn't succeed.
Siren didn't want to talk to them anymore, but Hermione clearly wasn't going to let Siren off the hook so easily.
It was rare for her to encounter a wizard willing to talk to her, and she had many questions she wanted to ask.
What, Navei?
He doesn't count if he knows nothing when asked.
Neville: ...
To generate more buzz, Hermione even took out her wand.
That beautiful grapevine wood magic wand.
Neville didn't understand what was going on, but when he saw Hermione suddenly mention her wand, he took it out as well.
Xilun glanced at it.
Cherry wood, unicorn tail hair, 11 inches
Status: Damaged
【Characteristic: Resist: Spell effect -50%, spell success rate -50%, high probability of backfiring.】
Siren raised his eyes slightly and asked cautiously, "This wand of yours... wasn't sold to you by Ollivander, was it?"
Although he thought it was unlikely, Siren still felt it necessary to confirm, just in case Ollivander was indeed blinded by greed and sold something like this to Neville, so he could take remedial action in time.
No, it's not.
When Neville saw that Xiren was talking to him, he immediately became nervous.
"This...this is...my father's wand," he stammered, head bowed.
His voice was very soft, and his face was flushed red.
Both Siron and Hermione could tell that he was resisting the topic.
So Xilun didn't mention it again.
As long as it's not sold by them, it's fine.
However, out of a sense of responsibility as a wand maker, he still gave the other person a reminder.
"I suggest you get a new wand that belongs to you. This wand doesn't suit you at all, and you'll have a hard time using it."
Taking this kind of magic wand to school... because you think the school's curriculum is too easy, so you're giving yourself an increased level of difficulty?
"But this is my father's wand," Neville said, looking up, this time without stuttering.
"A wand isn't like clothes or shoes, nor is it Galleon. It has nothing to do with who it belongs to. It belongs to only one person, at least most wands are like that," Siron shook his head and patiently explained.
This isn't something he's making up.
Fred and George are already quite alike, aren't they? They look and have very similar personalities, and can even be described as identical twins. In some ways, they are even closer than father and son.
But their wands are different.
Fred is dogwood, thirteen and three-quarters inches.
George is beech, thirteen and a half.
Apart from the core being a standard unicorn tail hair, everything else is different.
Neville lowered his head, wanting to refute Siren's words, but not knowing how to say it.
His grandmother said that he wanted to be like his father and become the pride of the Longbottom family, so he had to start by using his father's wand.
Besides, he also wanted to use the wand himself. Only when he held the wand could he have a slight illusion that his parents were always by his side.
Neville lowered his head further and further, his face flushing red and then turning pale, unseen by others.
"Don't say that..." Hermione, overflowing with sympathy, couldn't stand it anymore and spoke up to defend Neville.
"It's just a wand. I've never heard of a weapon that can't be used by a different person. I think the most important thing is to learn spells."
"I've read 'Spell Analysis and Explanation' and 'The Most Popular Spells of the Twentieth Century,'" Hermione said to Neville with her head tilted back, "The focus in those books is all on spells and wrist movements; they don't mention wands at all."
"That's because the author never imagined that someone would use a wand that was clearly unsuitable for them..." Siren thought to himself.
Choosing a wand that suits you is common knowledge in the wizarding world, so there's no need to mention it.
Just like Muggle books never tell you on the first page that a nearsighted person cannot wear reading glasses to read the contents.
However... seeing the two of them, Xilun held back from saying anything.
A newborn from a Muggle family, whose emotions outweigh reason, saying anything is useless and would only make him seem heartless.
After experiencing magic firsthand at school, they understood just how important a suitable wand is to a wizard.
