Chapter 365: You’re So Noisy
Chapter 365: You’re So Noisy
The top floor of the high tower.
"Damned brat, are you toying with me?"
Endless fury surged in the Black Dragon’s massive eyes.
He had noticed the shift in Yang Chan’s demeanor and instantly understood. This human had been toying with him the entire time. No wonder he’d never come closer.
"Let’s not put it that way. Weren’t you the one trying to trick me into coming closer, Lord Black Dragon?"
"You’re the scoundrel crying foul first!"
Yang Chan’s expression remained unchanged. Now that he realized the dragon posed little threat so long as he kept his distance, his attitude was bound to shift.
Everything before had been a test. With the results in, he was naturally more at ease.
CLANK! CLANK!
"You vile human! How dare you disrespect the great Black Dragon! That is a crime punishable by death! You shall burn in my Dragon Breath, your Soul Body shall be lit like a lantern, and you will be damned for all eternity!"
The Black Dragon thrashed wildly, making the chains on his body clank incessantly as a stream of vicious curses poured from his mouth.
At this moment, the Black Dragon was a far cry from its initial gentle demeanor, now the very definition of berserk, insane, and malicious. Its hysterical state made it seem like a black dragon that had crawled out of Purgatory itself—its mind deranged, with nothing but negative emotions remaining.
"Lord Black Dragon, you really are noisy!"
Yang Chan’s brow furrowed slightly. A Flying Needle appeared in his hand, but he didn’t throw it immediately, as it would be ineffective against a Soul Body on its own.
However, he had his methods.
Sword Intent surged from his body, and he channeled his Demon Suppressing Sword Intent into the Flying Needle.
To deal with an ethereal existence like a Soul Body, one naturally had to use methods like Sword Intent or Martial Seals, as they were all forms of Spiritual Power.
The Black Dragon was restrained by the chains, unable to break free, while he himself was unfettered.
He wouldn’t get close to attack. Using his Sword Intent from a distance by infusing it into a Flying Needle was a much better option.
As for how effective it would be, he had the perfect test subject right in front of him.
Of course, if he could have, he would have preferred to quietly take the Black Stone Mala from the dragon. But it seemed his skills of persuasion weren’t quite refined enough to fool the beast. Otherwise, he wouldn’t need to be going through all these tests.
’I suppose an innocent boy like me just can’t learn those kinds of tricks,’ he thought wryly.
With a twitch of his finger, the Flying Needle vanished from his hand.
TING!
The Flying Needle pierced the Black Dragon’s Soul Body but did not pass straight through.
"AH! You’ve actually comprehended Sword Intent!"
"Damned human whelp! If you have any guts, come fight me face-to-face! What are you doing skulking about?"
"The entire Human Race is as despicable as you! You should all be slaughtered! You all deserve to die!"
"Despicable race..."
An endless stream of profanity poured from the Black Dragon’s mouth. Its massive eyes blazed with a fury that seemed to want to incinerate Yang Chan and reduce him to ash.
It wanted to make him howl in agony, to beg for mercy in despair. Then, and only then, would it snuff out all signs of life, letting him die filled with unwilling resentment.
He had been sealed in this high tower for too long, so long that he had almost lost track of time.
’It’s somewhat effective. Let’s try some more!’
Yang Chan completely ignored the Black Dragon’s profanities, instead observing its Soul Body with a flicker of interest. This was an existence far rarer than an Exotic Beast.
The requirements for a Soul Body to manifest were incredibly demanding. It required high Martial Arts Cultivation, immense Spiritual Power, and a special location or Weapon before one could possibly be born.
Even after formation, they didn’t last forever. If the surrounding environment changed or the Soul Body itself was not resolute enough, it would dissipate after a certain period.
Therefore, although Yang Chan had read about such things in records, he had never witnessed one with his own eyes. He had even felt the concept was absurd, but the Black Dragon before him proved that it was indeed possible.
In a way, this was an alternative form of longevity. Without its many restrictions, it might have been a decent path to eternal life.
After all, even for those whose Martial Arts Cultivation reached the National Guardian Martial Saint Realm, their Lifespan likely did not exceed five hundred years—it might even be shorter.
He had never seen this written in any records, but he could infer it from the histories of the various great Imperial Dynasties.
The fall of an Imperial Dynasty was most often caused by the death of its National Guardian Martial Saint. Without an expert of that caliber presiding over it, an Imperial Dynasty would struggle to survive. These individuals were the true guardians of the great Imperial Dynasties, the very key to the continuation of imperial authority.
He had learned from Princess Lan Yue that the Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty still had a National Guardian Martial Saint, but the man was ancient and frail—a major reason for the various upheavals stirring within the Dynasty.
Princess Lan Yue believed the Jin Meng Empire had initiated war as a probe, to test whether the Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty’s National Guardian Martial Saint was still alive. The final outcome of that test, however, remained unclear.
The appearance of the Taiyin Heaven had attracted a great deal of attention, and then Yang Chan had been brought into this strange space by the Incomplete Seal, leaving him completely in the dark about subsequent events.
At that moment, Yang Chan stared fixedly at the Black Dragon as six Silver Needles appeared in his hand.
The first attack had proven effective. It was time to increase the intensity.
The Black Dragon was now a sitting duck, completely unable to break free from its chains. If he could extract some useful information from it, that would be for the best. If not, then killing it and taking the Black Mala from its body was also an excellent choice.
The saying goes, "to be the fish on someone else’s chopping block."
Now, he held the knife. The choice was his.
The Black Dragon, meanwhile, was still spouting an endless stream of curses and vile insults.
Faced with this behavior, Yang Chan decided he was done coddling it.
He coated the six Silver Needles with Demon Suppressing Sword Intent, continuously increasing the amount of Spiritual Power infused within them.
If he wanted the Black Dragon to calm down, he needed more Flying Needles. He had to make it understand just who held the upper hand.
Sticking it with needles was the best option.
The six Flying Needles vanished from Yang Chan’s hand, reappearing an instant later embedded in the Black Dragon’s body.
Bound by the chains, the Black Dragon was completely unable to dodge his Flying Needles.
He targeted its massive eye, its Reversed Scale, its head, and the spot where its heart would be.
The methods for harming a Soul Body might differ, but its vital points were still just as vulnerable. A strike to any of these locations could inflict heavy damage, or even death.
ROAR!
A tremendous roar erupted from the Black Dragon’s mouth.
This attack was several times more powerful than Yang Chan’s initial attempt.
The Sword Intent contained within the Flying Needles was far stronger. He wanted to see the result, as it would determine his next move.
Sword Intent was not his most powerful tool at the moment. His advancement as a Sword Master was beginning to grant him significant improvements, especially to his Spiritual Power.
These repeated probes served to confirm the Black Dragon’s true condition. Beyond that, Yang Chan was also very interested in any information regarding the Taiyu Divine Continent.
This was information he could never have come across in the Cyan Yuan Sect. From the Black Dragon’s words, it clearly knew something. If he could just make it understand who was in control, then getting that information might be possible.
Of course, this was also to confirm its vital points, making it easier to land the killing blow.
