Chapter 726 - 637: Chichu Chun’s Troubles (2)
Chapter 726 - 637: Chichu Chun’s Troubles (2)
Chichu Chun sat at the edge of the cabin, anxiously lowering her head.
Thinking about the guy next to her grinning mischievously at her, Chichu Chun buried her head even lower.
"Aren’t you going to say something?" Xu Xiaoyou sighed, "It’s been a long time since we last saw each other; feels a bit distant."
"Haha...Yeah, yeah." Chichu Chun twirled her fingers around the strands of hair falling down, a faint, barely noticeable blush appearing on her face.
"I, I’m just afraid that I might hurt others, that’s why I say these things, hoping to scare people away."
Chichu Chun tried to explain, and as she spoke, she shook her right hand. Dark scales covered her arm, undulating like water, as if breathing, fastening in rows, with black-purple aura seeping out from the gaps between the scales, her five fingers sharp like claws.
Since that loss of control, her right arm has shown characteristics of the High-level Insect Race, establishing a certain special symbiotic state with them.
During battles, she would often attach a special ’Witch Slayer’ mechanical arm to suppress its activity.
"I still can’t fully control these powers."
But upon facing Xu Xiaoyou’s smiling face, she felt a sudden helplessness, knowing all her explanations were futile.
"But you." Chichu Chun angrily countered, "Big busy person, what makes you think of coming to me?"
With that, Chichu Chun silently turned her head away.
"I really don’t know how you got here. If they find out, it would be troublesome. You should go quickly."
Before her voice fell, a black glove reached out to Chichu Chun. She stared blankly at Xu Xiaoyou, dressed up in formal attire, wearing a polite smile, left hand stretched forward, right hand clenched into a fist behind her, looking like a knight helping a princess dismount.
But there were no knights here, no princesses, only two beings viewed as anomalies by others.
"I’m here to take you out."
Compelled by an inexplicable urge, Chichu Chun reached out her hand, and as the scales were about to touch Xu Xiaoyou’s palm, she instinctively withdrew it, only to have the girl catch her hand tightly.
The gentle undulation of the scales created ripples.
"If all goes as expected, we’re going to be wanted soon, and then we’ll flee to the Wastelands. Perhaps the association will send Prism Tier Cleaners to hunt us down. Are you ready to face a life of running with me?"
Chichu Chun lowered her eyes, said nothing, allowing Xu Xiaoyou to take her hand and lead her towards the darkness, their shadows seemed to dance together in the dimness.
One step, two steps, footsteps quickened, breathing accelerated, the shadows of monsters danced embracingly.
Blinding white light appeared, Chichu Chun stretched out her hand to block it in front of her, seeing the scene outside the door.
Hundreds of soldiers were already fully prepared, the operation sounds of artillery barrels raising were one after another, armored vehicles moved out from both wing passages, the cold light cast down from the dome, the murderous atmosphere pervading these war machines. A woman in a khaki trench coat stood among the soldiers, the fierce wind whipping her coat and hair.
Thistle Xuedong, wearing black sunglasses, hands in pockets, an unrestrained aura silently kept the surrounding soldiers at a distance. Even through the sunglasses, Chichu Chun could feel Thistle Xuedong’s sharp gaze.
Her lips pursed, eyes evasive, like a child caught doing something wrong by their parent.
Were it not for Xu Xiaoyou still holding her hand, Chichu Chun might have turned around and fled.
Both sides confronted each other, the atmosphere was tense.
Facing the infamous Prism Tier Cleaner, soldiers swallowed saliva nervously, their hands trembled while gripping weapons, merely standing here was enough to prove their courage to face death.
"Aren’t you going to say hello?" Thistle Xuedong spoke.
"If I greet, would Commander Ji let me in from the front?" Xu Xiaoyou remained unperturbed.
"At least in welcoming esteemed guests, we would have been better prepared."
"And not made a mess like now."
Thistle Xuedong glanced at the door kicked in by Xu Xiaoyou and the passage scattered with chaos.
"I’m curious, does becoming a Light Prism automatically turn someone into a destructive lunatic doing incomprehensible things?"
Xu Xiaoyou remained indifferent.
"’Gloomy Blue Tide,’ ’Deep White Midnight,’ and you, Dark Gold Rose."
"You are worse than them."
Soldiers around were tearless with grief.
No one was unaware of Dark Gold Rose’s infamous reputation, conversations like this were better held privately; saying it to their face, is it really okay?
Please talk less, do you really have to anger this lunatic to tear down the whole base?
"Thanks for the compliment." Xu Xiaoyou remained expressionless, the whip in her hand hung down to the ground.
Are we going to fight, now?
The soldiers’ nerves tightened, fearing at any moment Xu Xiaoyou would burst out and turn this place upside down. If Thistle Xuedong truly engaged in combat with Dark Gold Rose, they would be the first to be affected.
"Don’t misunderstand." Thistle Xuedong said, "Dark Gold Rose, we have no malice."
Before the soldiers had a chance to relax, Thistle Xuedong raised her voice.
"Chichu Chun, Second Lieutenant, hear the order!"
Chichu Chun promptly raised her head to respond.
"Here’s a task for you: go to Nightmare City’s front line rear occupation zone to clean up the Insect Race, report back before nightfall."
With those words, the war machines on both sides rumbled to create a passage, the tense atmosphere instantly softened, and the smell of gunpowder dissipated.
Hearing this, Chichu Chun was momentarily stunned, her eyes then lit up. She wanted to say something, but upon meeting Thistle Xuedong’s threatening gaze, she silently shrunk her shoulders, lowered her head, and avoided eye contact.
"Did you understand?" Thistle Xuedong’s face turned kind, enunciating each word.
"Understood!" Chichu Chun responded loudly.
Then, like making her escape, Chichu Chun pulled Xu Xiaoyou’s hand and ran past the woman with her head down.
"Take good care of her." Thistle Xuedong said.
Her eyes met Xu Xiaoyou’s in that moment.
After thinking it over, Thistle Xuedong added.
"If she wants to run, she can try, but no matter what, the Chichu Family will bring her back."
"This is not a threat."
"Dark Gold Rose, this is a friendly reminder."
"Certain responsibilities, once undertaken, offer no escape."
...
The strong wind roared head-on, the rumble of propellers echoed from above, looking down from the skies, the city below was in full view, the ruined urban landscape stretched out.
Like a city having undergone apocalyptic destruction in a movie, resilient plants grew across the vast and desolate ruins, each high-rise standing tall, their rusty surfaces deeply rooted into the earth like spikes, the glass curtain walls of century-old buildings surrounded by a sea of green, a magnificent elevated bridge spanned the city, blocked by abandoned vehicles.
An insect vibrated its wings, perched on the steel bar extending from the fractured road, only to be preyed upon by a spider. This city abandoned by humans experienced the moment of rebirth under the rules of nature.
After the past days, the hustle of the city ceased, nature coexisted with steel, somber yet full of vitality.
