Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike

Chapter 562 - 534: Second Update

Chapter 562 - 534: Second Update

The next day, Mina Thorne and Seth Sutton returned to visit the bride’s family. Sienna Thornton and Simon Forrester stayed back at Quentin Thorne’s to help out.The homecoming banquet was held at the same State Guesthouse restaurant where Sienna and Simon had theirs before, but this time they didn’t let the wedding company set up any wedding decorations.

The reason was, of course, that only a hundred days had passed since Ian Grant’s passing, so a high-profile celebration was inappropriate. It was merely a gathering with friends and relatives to inform everyone that yesterday Mina, the second daughter of the Thorne Family, got married and returned home today.

The couple didn’t bring any bridesmaids or groomsmen, nor did they wear flashy outfits. The bride wore a simple white gown from start to finish, and Seth was in a black suit. The black and white contrast seemed to pay reverence to the spirit of Ian Grant in heaven.

Old Master Grant, although unable to be present, sent the entire Grant Family to help; with Zachary Grant and his four sons accompanying Quentin Thorne, a lot of work was relieved.

Old Master Forrester and Grandma Forrester also attended as Quentin Thorne’s in-laws. Though they were elderly, their hearing was sharp, and they overheard Quentin’s old colleagues discussing that although the groom was the son of Chief Prosecutor Sutton, his connections were not as vast as Simon Forrester, whose wedding had major figures’ sons as the groom’s friends, including rising political stars like Julian Shepard and Tobias Blackwood.

The elderly couple felt a sense of pride, sitting up straight and lifting their chins high, exuding an air of superiority.

...

With Ian Grant’s passing and Mina Thorne’s marriage, the previously lively Thorne household grew quieter and more subdued.

Quentin Thorne probably couldn’t handle the atmosphere and mentioned to Sienna Thornton a couple of days before National Day that he wanted to go on a trip to clear his mind and might return in about half a month.

Sienna didn’t take it to heart. When Simon Forrester remarked she was indifferent about her father, she chuckled and said, "You know, my dad’s living the dream life every man envies now."

Simon Forrester: "???"

Sienna applied a thick sleeping mask to her face and said, "He’s healthy, speaks English fluently, has money in his pocket, and his kids are all settled. Most importantly, he has no wife! This is the best time to go have fun; he might even come back with a new wife. You have no idea how much the old men at his workplace envy him..."

"That might just be your perspective. From a man’s viewpoint..." Simon Forrester paused for a second, "it sounds pretty awesome!"

Sienna rolled her eyes in the mirror at him, snorting softly, and asked, "So is this your inner man talking? Hoping for me to die off early so you can go have fun like Quentin?"

Simon Forrester countered, "Why not? You said having fun like him is great, so why the grumpy face when it’s me?"

Sienna gave him another eye-roll, saying, "Quentin is my dad, are you my dad?"

"Haha, double standards indeed." Simon Forrester murmured, and Sienna didn’t hear, nor did she retort.

Feeling a bit smug, he looked at her face, covered in the mask, and frowned, "Why do you have to put that stuff on?"

Just then, Sienna suddenly turned to him with a wide-open red mouth.

Her tongue was red, contrasting with the white mask, and mixed with the dim lighting of the room, Simon Forrester was startled, recoiling a bit, muttering, "If I had a heart condition, you’d be inheriting everything right now."

After scaring him, Sienna let her long black hair down over her chest, slowly crawled onto the bed towards him, her hair sprawled, and she shone her phone’s flashlight under her face.

Simon Forrester was scared to the point of no retreat, beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead, clutching a pillow for defense.

Sienna moved closer, tongue out, and said in a spooky tone, elongating her words, "If you dare to have fun after I die, I’ll come back looking like this to find you... find you... find you..."

Seeing Simon Forrester’s terrified face, she got carried away, playfully clawing at him, only to be completely embraced by him in the next moment.

He laughed heartily for a while, then suddenly lowered his voice, leaning down to whisper softly in her ear, "I just want you to come back for me. Even if you’re a ghost, I’d still love you just as before..."

She playfully punched his shoulder, coquetishly saying, "So you were pretending? How annoying!"

...

In mid-October, Quentin Thorne returned after half a month of wanderlust.

It was Melinda Linton who called Sienna Thornton, letting her know.

Over the phone, Melinda was cheerful, saying Quentin had brought gifts for everyone, but they would wait to distribute them once Sienna and Simon Forrester came over that evening.

Sienna pressed her lips, chuckling, saying how Melinda was as excited about gifts as a child despite her age.

She called Simon Forrester, and they decided to head over after work, planning to stay the night at Melinda’s.

...

As work was ending, Sienna was delayed by Director-General Linton about a work matter, and then met the rush hour traffic; by the time she reached The Springs Residences, Simon Forrester had already arrived.

She entered, changing shoes by the entrance, and saw Quentin sitting in the living room, excitedly asking, "Dad, where did you go this time?"

Quentin said, "Just visited a few spots in the country."

"Really!" Sienna put on her slippers and walked over to sit next to Simon beside Quentin, "Considering how crowded domestic attractions can be right now, I thought you’d go abroad."

Saying that, she realized the slip and stuck out her tongue playfully.

People in Quentin’s position couldn’t just travel abroad leisurely.

Quentin smiled, "I went to less crowded places."

But when Sienna asked for specifics, he wouldn’t say and even changed the topic, "Annie, you’re heading to Valois at the end of next month, right?"

"Yes, on the 26th."

"How’s the case preparation going?"

"Director-General Linton is quite satisfied with our strategy; it should be fine."

Quentin nodded, resting his chin on his hand as he thought and said, "I heard the current minister will officially step down after next year’s Spring Festival, and Director-General Linton is expected to be promoted to Deputy Minister."

He left it at that.

Sienna’s face and ears immediately turned red, feeling a strange lightness in her limbs.

She wanted to ask Quentin if he’d heard who might be promoted to Deputy Director of the Treaty and Law Department but felt embarrassed to do so.

Noticing her hesitation, Simon Forrester straightforwardly asked, "Have you heard who might be promoted to Deputy Director of the Treaty and Law Department?"

With Director-General Linton’s likely promotion, it’s expected that the Deputy Director would be promoted to Director, opening up the Deputy Director position.
