Chapter 300: FIRST DEATH
Chapter 300: FIRST DEATH
I’M STILL alive?Wonhee was pleasantly surprised when she opened her eyes and realized that she didn’t wake up in the Afterlife or something.
Instead of angels or demons, she was greeted by Song Moonho.
To be fair, this ahjussi has the face of an angel but the heart of a demon.
"Wonhee-ssi, you’re awake," Song Moonho greeted her with a smile— the smile of an angel, but the glint in his eyes was kind of evil. "You’re insulting me in your head, aren’t you?"
"No, not at all," Wonhee lied with a straight face, her voice slightly hoarse. "How am I still alive?"
Song Moonho handed her a water bottle, the lid already twisted open. "Take a guess."
Wonhee would have been annoyed by Song Moonho’s vague question.
But she soon realized why the ahjussi said that instead of simply giving her a direct answer.
Ah, my chest...
Wonhee put a hand over her chest. "It’s cold in here."
Song Moonho leaned against the chair and crossed his arms over his chest. "It should be."
"Did Yejun freeze my heart?"
"That, he did."
"Now I’m even more confused," Wonhee said, sipping on her water before asking: "If Hwang Yejun froze my heart, why am I still alive?"
"That bastard froze your heart to stop the cracks from completely breaking your heart. In short, his Mana is literally pulling the broken pieces of your heart together," Song Moonho said. "But don’t ask me how something like that is possible. It’s between Hwang Yejun and the System."
Right.
The System seemed to treasure Hwang Yejun as he was the strongest Hunter in the world.
"Moonho-ssi, does Yejun know?"
"That you’re dying?"
"Yes."
"Hwang Yejun is smart when he’s planning to commit murder, but he’s a bit slow when it comes to things like this," Song Moonho said, chuckling. "He didn’t realize that you were dying. That kid just thought your Core suffered because you were Guiding him."
"Huh?"
"Apparently, he knows that he’s been absorbing your Mana like no tomorrow ever since the two of you found out that you’re compatible as a Hunter and a Guide. So, he thinks he’s the reason why your heart broke."
"Is he... dumb?"
"Sometimes."
Wonhee chuckled before she found it adorable.
The strongest Hunter in the world, acting silly?
"Where is he now, Moonho-ssi?"
"That kid is stuffing his face with the produce that Bitna-ssi sent to us," Song Moonho explained. "The produce that Bitna-ssi grew herself has the ability to boost a Hunter’s Mana. Hwang Yejun thought he should start relying on Mana-enhancing food so that he wouldn’t burden you too much."
"How cute," Wonhee said, smiling. "Then does it mean Bitna’s plan to help people produce Mana with the food she grows and makes is going well?"
"Very well."
"Then I guess I can entrust this world in her capable hands."
"Wonhee-ssi..."
"We need my heart to open the portal that will bring back Yool," Wonhee said, clutching her chest. "My death is long overdue, and you know that."
"I know that your sacrifice is needed," Song Moonho said, pausing for a moment. "But I don’t think Hwang Yejun will let you die easily, Wonhee-ssi."
***
"YOU DIDN’T die."
Pfft.
Wonhee had already recovered when Hwang Yejun returned to Song Moonho’s secret base where she was currently staying.
She was happy to see that the strongest Hunter in the world was as lively as ever.
But...
"Your eyes are already reddish, Yejun-ah," Wonhee said worriedly. "Come here— I’ll guide you."
Hwang Yejun stepped backwards while shaking his head. "No, I don’t want you to guide me, Wonhee-ya."
"Excuse me?"
"I’ll recover once I eat the produce that the broccoli sent."
"’Broccoli?’"
"Your Guide friend."
"Why are you calling Bitna a broccoli?"
"Her hair looks like a broccoli."
"That’s rude, Yejun-ah."
"She said she likes the sound of it."
"Okay then."
Hwang Yejun laughed softly. "See? You’re cuter when you’re alive, Wonhee-ya. It was so boring without you that I almost snapped and freeze the world to death."
If it was just some other Hunter, Wonhee would have just ignored those words.
But Hwang Yejun wasn’t the type to drop empty promises.
Moreover, Yejun-ah has the power to freeze the world if he wants to.
"Yejun-ah, am I important to you?"
"Woah. Are you trying to make me confess to you?"
"You don’t have to— I can tell you like me very much."
Hwang Yejun looked surprised at first, and then he burst out laughing. "Is today our first day then?"
Wonhee smiled while shaking her head. "Yejun-ah, I like you, too. But I think, at this point, the thing I like the most is this world. So many people close to my heart have sacrificed their lives to prevent the world from ending."
"You don’t want their sacrifices to go to vain."
"That and because a world going back to normal would be my greatest revenge against the person who started all this mess."
Hwang Yejun paused for a moment, and then he nodded. "Alright, I get it. I won’t freeze the world that you like more than you like me."
"Really?"
"Yes, I will protect the things you want to protect."
Wonhee couldn’t help but to smile in relief. "If you wish to protect the things I love, then you have to receive my guiding. You’re the strongest Hunter in the world, Yejun-ah. Having said that, you still need me as a Guide."
"I know, but..."
"Yejun-ah, I won’t die just because I give you a bit of a guiding."
"You say that, but your heart is in a terrible condition, Wonhee-ya."
Oh, dear.
Hwang Yejun is the strongest Hunter in the world for a reason.
"I won’t die, Yejun-ah," Wonhee said, extending her hands to Hwang Yejun. "I promise."
Hwang Yejun looked hesitant at first, but he held Wonhee’s hands in the end. "You promised, Wonhee-ya."
Promises are, sadly, made to be broken.

[WARNING!
Guide Chu Wonhee, if you take away all the abilities of all the Hunters you consider as enemies, the System will be forced to punish you!
This world’s collective Mana would drop if you proceed!]
Wonhee ignored the System’s warning.
How could she back down when Lee Seodam’s arrogant face was just right in front of her?
Is he being smug just because he knows I can’t abuse my ability?
Hah!
Wonhee smirked, matching the arrogance on Lee Seodam’s face. "If I’m dying, I’m bringing those bastards down with me."
That was the day Chu Wonhee died.
